Is there something different between these two sets other than the size? They can both be had for much the same price but when I watched them side by side at lunch time today the 37 had a noticeably better picture while watching BBC2 on the Freeview tuner.

I've got the 40" M86 1080p, looks great, had the same problem looking in the shops, it became a nightmare!
The sound is cr*p so make sure you have an amp to take the optical out. The shiny black casing etc looks good but get a industrial size duster to keep it clean!
Got it from Dixons online for £780 then found discount voucher (entered Gimme5) for 5% off!!

The 37" uses a different panel which gives it inferior contrast, the 40" was probably just setup terribly in the store. Considering the price difference is next to nothing, I'd go with the 40" (which I myself will be doing in about a weeks time). Use the code PR25 to get it for £715 from Dixons with 3% cashack through Quidco.

Thanks folks. Sounds like a lot of the early "M" problems have been sorted out now so this one is right at the top of my list now the prices are down a bit.

I am in the same boat as you, i was trying to decide between these two screens, I went to currys today to compare the two - but couldn't see any noticeable difference apart from the size to be honest, and anyway you don't really get to see how good the quality of the TV is in a shop, they are usually sharing the same feed. I went into comet and all the TV's looked bloody awful because of it, i could barely read the writing on the screen, lol.

Sproz (or anyone else with this model tv), can you please let me know what the quality of the picture is like when watching standard definition television ? (i have a dvd recorder that lets me watch freeview)

I'm anxious to know this because the only things i will be doing with this TV is watching freeview, and playing on my xbox 360. Therefore if the freeview picture is a bit crap, i might choose a different telly - like a panasonic that seem to handle standard def quite well.

Thanks!

In John Lewis the other day the 37M was next to the new Panasonic LCD - model escapes me at the moment, the one with the speakers on the sides - and I thought there was very little to choose between them. They seemed to be set up pretty well and the picture quality on both was good. The worst thing was the JL price for the Samsung.

My SD Sky through a normal cheap scart lead (I will upgrade all soon!!) can be very slightly fuzzy occasionally, especially after upgrading from a 28"CRT as I guess its just like blowing up a photo to a bigger size. I view it from approx 8ft and its fine, but closer and it will look worse than a CRT, a lot also seems to depend on the original footage. Overall I am VERY pleased and when I now look at the 28" CRT in my lads room I don't know how I managed before!!
I'm waiting now for Freesat HD to come along (spring) and see how that shakes up the market before getting ripped off by skyHD, I'm also looking at putting sky through my PC that I have hooked up to it, to upscale the images.
Lastly, Call of Duty4 on Xbox is fantastic on this, problem is she can never watch Corry anymore!
hope this helps

I'm seriously thinking of upgrading my current 32'' LCD and going for the Samsung 40'' model here.

Does anyone know if curry's stores will price match the website price of Dixons, considering they are the same company? I know Currys will pricematch whatever is on their own site as the guy in my local store said they did

Thanks for the info Sproz, appreciate that !

Lee, i was in tunbridge wells kent today asking shops the same question you just asked.

Not even currys digital (formerly dixons) will price match the dixons website. They told me they wont price match any online stores unless they also have real life shops.

Tomorrow though i'm going to ring some places up around our area and see if any of them will price match Empire Direct which are selling the 40" m87 for £750.

I will let you know how it goes.

PS. Currys are useless, lol - they have the m87 1,000 in store, and also , 1,000 on their website.

Cheers mate. On both currys and Dixons site they say delivery will be within 1 month, so i would like to be able to just go to my local store and pick one up.

Looking forward to hear your findings

try robertwhyteltd.co.uk

You can't just nip back to the shop if there's a problem but they do include a free 5 year warranty

Dixons were great, look for discount codes (google for them) I ordered on a Sunday (before xmas)and when i did they said it would be here Thursday am, which is exactly when it arrived. Also got a cheap HP pavillion Pc to hook up to it £280 from microdirect with the money I saved from NOT going to the washing machine shop!
