Just got this TV today and after endless messing around with the settings in VGA, Component and Scart settings I have decided the TV is crap.

All outlines have a 'meshy' edge and its even more noticable in component mode.

I thought there might be a setting to stop this but I can't find it. This tv is going back tomorrow.

What TV is the best for Xbox 360 and Sky HD for around £500?

Well something seems a miss, as that TV gets great reviews.
I assume you have SKY or SKY+ currently just make sure the picture settings on the SKY box are RGB not Pal and 16:9 not 4:3 and you are using a quality SCART Cable, not some supermarket "Gold" cable.
As for the XBOX you have set the aspect correctly (16:9)? and if going via component set to HD out (i.e. bring the res up) as that is a common failing I see a lot on this site.

To check the quality of the set tune in Freeview.

Thanks for the reply but the crappy image seems to be in the menus aswel. Its not just the connections its the built in menus that have fuzzy edges. :thumbsdow

Poor. Freeview was always going to be poor but it still has these dotted lines instead of normal lines

Take the TV back and complain then.
Out if interest why was freeview always going to be poor, it either works or does not due to a bad aerial.

Hi mine was exactly the same, the 360 looked terrible via component and in Vga mode there was weird outlines around everything. I did post up on here about it a long time ago but people that responded with the same tv didn't seem to have the same problems. The blocky menus you refer to are the same on most tv's though I think? I've just brought a Toshiba 47" Z series and they are just as blocky as the Samsung.

@ Hixxey: have you had a look in the R86/87/88 optimal settings thread lots of good settings you can use, turn off movie plus on all inputs this is probably whats causing the meshy edges, if you send the tv back and "want the best" your going to have to up your budget for a Panasonic or a Sony.

Would you care to elaborate, a sweeping statement such as yours helps no one.

i bought a 40"samsung lcd from tesco's after 13 months the picture started flickering the only way to stop it was to turn the backlight off this made picture quality very poor.
contacted samsung they were not interested as it was out of warranty, contacted tesco's and after a lot of persuasion they agreed to get it repaired as a goodwill gesture (according to the sale of goods act 1978 a large electrical purchase should last about 5 years before developing any faults, although this is only a guidline) anyway the tv was repaired in jan this year and now it has gone again when you switch it on you get sound straight away but picture takes about 4-5 mins to come on then it flashes for about 5 mins even with backlight off i will never buy another samsung appliance i have tried asking samsung about the fault and they just say they can send an engineer to check but it will cost me i don't want to pay for a repair only for it to go again in a few months time tesco's say they will not repair it again either
