Samsung LE32R73BD vs SAMSUNG LE32R72BX

Hi guys, not posted in a long time.

Anyway, I'm selling my LG Plasma on eBay and currently have £500 with 2 days to run. I'm looking at using the money to buy a Samsung LCD, although I have taken the Toshiba 32WLT66 into consideration also.

What I want to ask though, is what's the difference between the Samsung models in the thread title? Cosmetically, I see that the "BX" has a silver trim at the bottom of the set, and the "BD" has a blue tinted trim. However, on Curry's website the "BX" is £629.99 and the "BD" is £689.99, although I have a code to bring the "BD" down to £609.00.

Is there any major performance difference between them? I compared the specs on the website, and noticed that it says the "BX" does not come with a Freeview Digital tuner? However, it also says the "BX" is not flatscreen ... so I don't really want to read too much into Curry's technical spec sheet. :rotfl:

Any info or advice would be appreciated. Although, one other question. I had a look at the Toshiba in Curry's this afternoon, and the sticker on the set said something about full HD and mentioned a resolution of 1900 x 1080 ... yet the set has a native resolution of 1366 x 768, so I take it the sticker is referring to downscaling software? I also heard that the Sammy is better at pixel for pixel mapping via VGA, which is important to me because I need this set primarily for Xbox 360 and HD-DVD.

Cheers.

i have the Samsung LE32R74BDX and it includes freeview.

I have it connected with a king well upscaling dvd player via both component and hdmi. (dependant on film source.) The picture looks great to me.

The set really comes alive when i connect via the computer and play downloaded hd content.

Reviews always put down the sound of this set but i find the internal speakers adequate for day to day viewing. which av loving person doesn't over ride the internal sound with an amp anyway?

Yeah, I use a Denon AVR-1602 which, while not the most modern AV amplifier, supports both 5.1 and DTS, so sound isn't a major feature for me either. I noticed that you have the LE32R74BDX ... which doesn't quite match either of the models I quoted. With the "X" at the end of the model number, does yours have the silver trim? If so, it seems Curry's are way out with their tech specs, as I suspected.

The R73BD has built-in freeview, with a blue trim (exclusive to Currys)
The R72BX doesn't have freeview, and has the standard silver trim which is available from anywhere else.

The R7BD has either black or blue trim, with the blue trim being available as an exclusive to Curry's. That much I do know, as I have seen the all black BD in John Lewis.

I'm not overly bothered by Freeview though, since I have Sky+ and will be upgrading to SkyHD soon enough.

Piano black with silver triangular lower recess.

Picture quality of freeview ranges from okay to abysmal. But is a nice added extra and keeps the missus happy. (always thinking :smashin: )
