Hi, have a Samsung LE32R41BD, connected up the video cable between my laptop and new tv. I go to the PC screen and my laptop desktop (Windows XP) is shown up on the lcd screen.

I then start using my tv as my monitor, but when I tried to play an AVI file in either VLC Player, DivX Player, Windows Media Player....all I get is a black area where the video should be playing. The rest of Windows XP, Word, etc show up fine on the screen, but not playing AVI files. Can anyone help me?

It's a problem with the hardware overlay. What kind of video card is it?

If it's an ATI one, you can go to your ATI Control Panel and find the option for "Theater Mode" to fix that.

Its an ATI Radeon IGP 320M. In my ATI menu which is located in the system tray, I have four options:

    Schemes
    - Default Single Display

    Settings
    - ATI Icon Settings
    - Display Settings
    - Device Settings

    Help
    - ATI Desktop
    - ATI Flat Panel
    - ATI Television Display

    Troubleshooting
    - ATI Desktop
    - ATI Television Display

None seem to help me in trying to work out how to get AVI to work. :(

You need to have it outputting on the TV screen only - try cycling through the options on F5 or F7 (usually).

Yep, the very bottom of the page has the Theater Mode info.

    Thanks for the help guys...

...but my ATI card in my laptop doesn't come with the options that that website lists! Its not exactly a high-end laptop so that would explain why it doesn't have a such powerful graphics card.

I've tried my laptop with my other Samsung LCD tv on previous occasions: the Samsung 930MP and it works. AVI videos show up...I just can't seem to get them running no matter what player I use: it just shows a near black area where the video is (ie if I go fullscreen and its widescreen - I get the black stripes at the top, but a near black thick bar where the video should be). If I keep it in the player window (VLC, Windows Media Player, DivX, etc...) I still get the near black box.

The video clearly plays on my laptop and everything else clearly shows up (webpages, word, etc) from my laptop...but the video doesn't show on my tv!!!

I've just found a HP update which might help with this problem so I'll get back to you once I've downloaded, installed and tested it!

Shows up videos in pretty class detail which I wasn't expecting for such a large screen!

    Keep up the good work!

    Bye!
