Im half considering buying one of these next week for use with xbox360, upscaling dvd player and pc input. Hopefully youse can answer some questions......

    Firstly my setup is:
    1. Xbox360 premium
    2. Dell 9300 laptop
    3. Panasonic ht-855 upscaling home cinema system - hence im not concerned by the tv's sound
    4. Sky+ - will be keeping my crt, so im not worried about sd performance

    1. Currently dixons have a 10 pound of voucher for april - making it £473.30. Does anybody have any idea if there will be a better or worse deal for may?

    2. Can an owner of this tv tell me if it has 3 hdmi inputs. A lot of websites says it only has 2 but i was under the impression it had 3......?

    3. Motion blur - does this tv suffer from motion blur on hd sources - upscaled dvds and xbox360. Im not too worried about its sd performance, im hoping it dosnt suffer from problems with hd......

    4. Could someone post a few pictures of there SAMSUNG LE26R88 - i have a small room so im not sure if the 26 inch would be too big or too small.... its impossible go into a big tv showroom and imagine how big/small the tv would look in my room...

    5. Has anyone hooked up a pc through the vga input - good results?

    5. Finally can someone clarify the on/off button situation. - to confirm, is there a button on the remote which can turn the tv on/off without having to press any buttons on the actual tv.

Id appreciate any help, i know a lot of new threads are started daily about the new samsungs, so i hope this one wont be lost!.......

I'd love to help but im actually looking for the same answers as you, i think as far as the TV goes with the Xbox 360 it'll be great, microsoft developed with samsung so your bound to get good results, as for use with a PC im not sure but i'd like to know, with the upscaling DVD player it'll also be fine, i think the only thing letting the TV down, which it doesnt in my opinion is SD, as some Sony's are better, but you dont need it so in my opinion find out about PC use and go for it!

Hi guys, first time post - so here goes…

Bought one of these on Sunday to replace my old Tosh 28” CRT, will use this as our main TV for the time being, until I decide which LCD to get for the main room (32” -100Hz or 37” -1080p) – possibly never, if I keep looking at these forums!

In Answer to some of your questions:

    1) I bought mine from PC World @ £483 online and picked it up from my local store an hour later. It’s £599 in the store itself!

    2) It has 2 hdmi inputs on the back.

    3) Performance:

Xbox 360 via Component @ 720p (No VGA Lead) – After some tweaking I’m very pleased with it, games now look so sharp and clear – you do occasionally get a little bit of a judder when the camera pans round on a fast moving intro, but this is just nit picking when coming straight from a CRT.
as for playing SD DVD from the Xbox it looks great.

SD viewing - Connected to Virgin/NTL cable box (SD) / No Freeview
Again some more tweaking required, but I’m fairly happy with the results, again not going to be 100% happy, as I’ve been using a CRT all my life. You do get a little motion blur, but this varies from channel to channel, but overall very happy. Will be getting Virgin+ next week, so I hope the upscalling will help.

    4) I’ve not got a very big room (3.5m2) and this 26” fits nicely in the corner, but I’m still going to get a bigger set later. You’ll always want bigger!

    5) It has touch sentive buttons on the font right hand side, you can use these this to turn on the set or do it via the remote (its always on standby - small red light near the buttons) and a blue glow under the Samsung logo when the TV is on (you can set this off or just to light up in standby) – looks very nice.

Overall I’m very happy with the looks and performance on this set, can’t see any clouding or dead pixels. :smashin:

    Hope this helps…

thanks for the reply badboy, just a follow on to your comments:

    2. so there is no 3rd hdmi on the side?

    3. can you explain what you mean by judder? - do you have pro evo for the xbox360 - is there any motion blur?
is hd gaming a huge leap from standard definition. Im in the same position as you having only ever had a crt - will i notice a big difference?

in regard to its sd performance, on good sources, can it look better than a crt. Im prepared to only use it occationally on sd as im keeping my crt....
How did the chelsea game look in sd?

Finally i dont want to get drawn into the whole samsung panel issue, but out of interest could you check the sticker on the back of the tv and tell us what it says......

Once again thanks for your help.....

i checked this set out in PC world today - definately only 2 hdmi connectors at the back, there is not a 3rd hdmi on the side, like on the larger models.

Picture looked very good (although it was a HD feed) - still trying to decide whether to get an LCD and whether to get 26" or 32".

I can confirm only 2 HDMI. Normal Video / LR Stereo and S-video on side.

As for the slight judder (image not moving smoothly) you have to really look for it and only get it on a game intro or movie trailer when the camera pans across a landscape (but you do have to look for it).

I'm very happy playing games on the xbox, will never go back to CRT for gaming. Can now read the text on Dead Rising, as for Pro Evo there is a slight ghosting on the players but I'm mean slight. Haven't had time to play with all the settings though.

As for the match I was getting a lot of pixelation and blury image off the players, but this is down to a crappy SD feed from NTL. If you watch a lot footy and have no HD source then stick to your CRT. :(

Still very happy with the set. :smashin:

I am also interested in this set for the bedroom.

I was also confused by websites saying it was 2 and sometimes 3 HDMI inputs. I only need one initially anyway.

    Thanks for the great info.

Does this mean that everyone with the R88 so far has had a samsung panel?

Just had a look in PC world and currys, both samsung panels. SD on freeview looked awful but that could be down to the split feed, otherwise its a nice set. (The 32" R88 had a CMO panel and if you look closely you can see the staggered pixels as opposed to the lined up ones.)
