    Hi there,

Looking for a new TV for the bedroom, and the other half would prefer a white screen.

Anyone got the Samsung LE23R86? Or can anyone else recommend a stylish LCD? Can go from 19-23"!

    Many thanks!

    Yes it is absolutely lovely..

Stylish yes - but I'm questioning picture quality - I checked one of these out today in a John Lewis store up against other 23 inch tvs and I was less than impressed with the picture. And it wasn't quality of the signal in my opinion.

In another thread someone has said that the panel is less good on this model than the old 23 inch model the le23r71wx, as below...

    What's the difference?

There's a big difference! PVA can display true 8bit color, has wider viewing angle, deeper blacks, higher contrast ratio etc...

How can you be sure it wasn't the signal? John Lewis' are renound for using standard deffination feeds split across 10-15 tvs at a time. The signal deteriation alone would make the video quality poor.

The other tvs next to it I assume had the same signal. And it was quality of the colours, and ability to display blacks that I was looking at. The picture looked pretty unreal and levels of grey where poor. In contrast there was a Toshiba WLT56B nearby and the picture looked far better. (noted the Tosh isn't HD ready, but it is an LCD). Similarly a 23 inch Philips model looked better for picture quality.

None-HD televisions look ALOT better at displaying standard deffination material, thats just the way it goes. You should really try to get some HD footage on a properly calibrated screen before making a final judgement.

I have one it`s going back on tuesday.

The viewing angle of the screen only 160 degrees and every time you stand up the picture gets considerably brighter.

also it`s not a true 16.8 million colour display it`s an "6 bit+FRC", It looked fine to me, but it`s going back.

I am getting the 26" samsung, with an 176 degree viewing angle and a true 16.8 million colour "8 bit" display.

it`s a bit on the big side for my kitchen, but i can`t stand the viewing angle on the 23".

    regards.

    John.

I didn't know there was a newer version.

I think I can live with the 1 HDMI socket, though (not getting a PS3 or Sky HD).

tinkerbox - just to save you a bit of disapointment when your replacement tv arrives - the 26 inch version of the r87/r88 only comes with 2 hdmi ports. - the samsung site seams to suggest it has 3 but it definately only has 2!

Yeah i have to agree with a poster about the bad viewing angle on the 23 inch version of the tv. I was dixons the other day and it was placed above eye level - it made the screen look incredibly dark and unimpressive.

If i was rich id buy the white Samsung 23 inch r86 and leave it turned off - has to be the best looking tv ever made. - pity about its performance when its on, but thats another story altogether!

    Hi.

the website i am buying it from says it has 3, 2 on the back and 1 on the side.

In the specifications on the samsung website, none of the R86`s have a third hdmi socket but they do!.

have a search for LE26R87BD, most place say 3 hdmi, some say 2.

I will have to wait and see.

    regards.

    John.

The 23 Inch has only 2 HDMI ports because it doesnt an array of connectors on the side like the 32"+.

The 23 has only 3Watt speakers as apposed to 10watt on the 32"+, the 23" also only has 4000:1 contrast ration compared to 8000:1 like the 32"+. The viewing angle is also less on the 23". It also lacks a swivel stand. It also has no HDMI-CEC.

I found all that from here: http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/television/tftlcd/le26r86bdxxec.asp?page=Specifications

    Hope that helps.

thank you, you've explained what I saw. All the 23 inch tvs were above my head, thats why the screen looked dark. But as the tv is for my bedroom the viewing angle is pretty important.
