I wonder if they will release this one 'without' the need for firmware updates to cure all the issues F86 and M86 owners have suffered!!!! :lease:

I think that firmware for all future Samsungs will be issued by USB memory stick/download instead of needing engineers visit. I have seen this model in the flesh and the colour around the edge is a nice design but going from reddish colour to clear around the edges. Not sure if they are going to do other colours or a black version yet in UK, guess we will know in next few weeks as more info is released.

Does this mean that the F86 is soon going to be discontinued ?:oops:

Just read in another thread that someone was trying to buy one from John Lewis and they were told they would not be comming back into stock, that seems a bit strange as the F series were launched in September (ish), so logically the F would be around until autumn 08, but until we get full info about all upcomming models we will have to wait. My guess is that the spring range will replace the R, S & M series and then another model will come out autumn 08 to replace the F series.

Another pic here;

Link below to larger version of same pic where is it easier to see the lacquered red colour of the bezel. There also seems to be a clear resin around the edge. Note it has the same touch controls at the bottom right corner as were introduced on the F86.

For specs, here's the Samsung Austrian catalogue and the LE40A656 is on page 6 , note this takes while to load so be patient.

Also here's a very early and brief review I found yesterday;

@ Chris - feel free to add any of this info to the first post as you feel appropriate.

Also as an aside, both the F86 and A656 are in the 2008 Austrian catalogue, not that it means they will run concurrently of course.

I have questions regarding the sound on this model, which it would be good to answer at some point.

It appears from the form factor that Samsung are reverting to the downward firing speakers as per the M8 series, rather than the side mounted (stereo separated) speakers on the F86.

Also it would be interesting to discover whether this model has a subwoofer speaker, as this really makes a difference to the weightiness of the sound on the F86.

Yep I also noticed that the speakers are not like F86,I wonder what the actual sound difference will be!The 7series though seem to have the F86 like speakers

If this and the Toshiba ZF are coming out towards the end of this month, beginning of April, then there should be quite an interesting tussle between them for customers and prices should be very competitive;). Perhaps £1k-ish for the 40" in a few months.

Cheers,

jah

the spec sheet says the dynamic contrast ratio is 50000:1 on the models which are 40" and greater.

Oops yes the 32" and 37" have 15.000:1)a bit low though)

I suppose that when 7 series will come around june then the F86 will be discontinued

wonder if it will have the blue led lights like the f86, my missus thinks theyre cool,[me too].

Hmm,I dont think 656 will have blue leds,maybe the 7 series

Yuk, doesn't look as nice as the F86 at all...........nasty oval stand :eek:

The F series was very wide though - esp. with the extra perspex strips at the side too. For example, the 46" Toshiba XF/ZF is 1" NARROWER than the 40" F86. :eek:. And the Onkyo speakers are no slouch.. There seemed to be many problems with the F86 but the silly width was the reason that stopped me buying it when it came out..
Even this new 40" 656 seems over 3" wider than the 40" XF/ZF..

You are correct, it is wide, but the fact that the edges are clear...ish does narrow it down when it is nicely settled at home.......in my opinion :)

Thanks and welcome 'SEGA team'.. but...... a link to a forum written in French is not really any help on a (primarily) UK site.. Pics are good though. :)
