I would also be very interested to how Atmos performs with these settings. As we know, all sound modes are negated when Atmos content is detected so essentially you will be getting these levels for the speakers without Surround Mode (or any other) for Atmos. Planetary specifically said he did not have Atmos and these settings were geared towards music. I just can't imagine the overhead is effective with the front top levels being at -5.
I have not tested with Atmos content.
In the context of the rest of the bar's settings, -5 is actually louder than -6.
The default setting has all speakers at 0, including the front top speaker.
The six positive volume rises represent 100% of the adjustable range, and the -5 setting I have set for the front top speaker is 16.7% louder than the rest of the entire sound-bar. As this is about relative sound gain balances and imaging, the absolute setting of -5 thus becomes meaningless, as it's then actually much louder than the rest of the system's overall balance.
It means my settings have the top-firing front speaker set 16.7% louder than the factory default setting does, with respect to the rest of the system, and noticeably louder than the rest of the system.
I set it this way via listening to the sound image on XBox in game, listening for the best surround image balance that it could produce. I doubt it will be any different for Atmos, but I haven't tested it in Atmos. I'll get to that soon just more interested in other areas first as movies usually sound spectacular, if you get it right in music and surround gaming first. In the end Atmos is an additional extension atop existing audio surround formats, so it must still mix, balance and integrate with those in the usual way. I don't expect any difference there, just another axis, so the same settings should work. This system with these settings will certainly work much better than the standard settings would have.
