Any issues with the sub losing connection?

Massive disappointment with the lack of HDR Pass-through still, especially for the price! Will this be the same for the whole "N Series" do you think?

It's disappointing but with only one HDMI input, it's less of an issue that it appears at first. I've got two 4K HDR sources (4K BD player and PS4 Pro) and some may even have three once Sky Q goes HDR, which means it makes more sense to just connect everything to your TV and pass the audio back via ARC.

I've currently got the N400, which is limited to HDMI 1.4, but I would expect the N700 and particularly the N950 to support 4K HDR and to have more HDMI inputs.

I guess that's a very valid point! My current set up has my new UB420 connected to the HDMI In of my HW-K550 for the audio only, then PS4 Pro and TiVo V6 via arc. Was hoping to get a Dolby Atmos system within the next 6-12months, but looking likely that I'll go for a receiver and speaker set up rather than an Atmos soundbar, as most lack DTS:X if I remember correctly?

Any idea when the N950 review is coming?

That doesn't come out until the second half of this year.

I presume the lack of hdr over hdmi is because it's meant to be connected to the audio only hdmi port of the 4k player? (Please excuse my ignorance if I'm wrong)

To be honest I have no idea why Samsung made this decision, especially as the HDMI connections are v2.0.

Hi Steve, I got one of these the other day, and I ran my Xbox One X through it and can confirm that HDR Passthrough does work on this Soundbar.... Might be worth clarifying with Samsung as it definitely works for films and gaming. I hope this helps

That's interesting. It didn't pass HDR when I reviewed the N650 and I specifically checked it with Samsung, who confirmed it didn't. I'll contact them and see what they have to say.

This soundbar is 500 dollars in the US vs £700 here so we are being badly ripped off as ever.

To check this for myself, I also ran my Xbox One X through the soundbar, and when I went into the Xbox settings it showed that HDR was enabled.

So any news regarding HDR-Passthrough? Has Samsung made any comments? HDR is mentioned on the US product site.

Yes it does pass HDR, I have changed the review to reflect this. Samsung confirmed it does and said that it always did and that the website was in error. Although that doesn't explain why I couldn't get HDR to pass when I tested it or why when I asked them at the time they said it didn't.

I confirmed with Samsung today that when I reviewed the N650 it didn't pass HDR. However they added HDR support via a firmware update after reading my review. Whether that was always their intention, or whether they realised their mistake after reading my review remains unclear.

Nice. Not having much luck with Samsung TVs. Awaiting an exchange for a 2018 Q7FN, if this one actually works then I'll probably be keeping a keen eye for price-drops on this soundbar.

The MS-650 seems to go on offer quite frequently, but would at least want a seperate sub included.

Hi Steve, I'm in AUS and I queried the HDR capabilities with Samsung as their AUS website says no but the US website says yes, response was...
"This is to confirm that I have received your email in regards to your Samsung soundbar features. I have received a response from our senior technical support team about the soundbar model's HDR compatibility. As per advised, the features and components present on the same soundbar model manufactured in the US may be different to the Australian manufactured units. Technically, it is based on the actual rights for the manufacturer's to have the particular feature to be supported on their devices. The HDR feature may have been available to the US manufactured soundbar model, however, it is not in Australia as the feature is not patented on selected countries. We may not know at the moment if it will support HDR by means of a software update, further details and updates will be posted through our dedicated website."

Update to that, just received from Samsung...
"I do apologise for the false information that I have forwarded to you earlier based on the response provided to me by our senior technical support team. By thoroughly checking the details, they have said that it seems to be a website issue not a product specification issue. To confirm, your Samsung soundbar purchased and manufactured in Australia is supported by HDR. Please see attached photo for your reference.
Once again, we are sorry for the inconveniences this has caused you and we hope to offer you better services in future."

I'm about to buy soundbar for games (ps4) & netflix, I think about samsung N650 and N950. Is gaming mode real deal/difference than playing on N950? Is it worth to spend extra money for N950? My TV Sony XF90 55"
