Did you order the ht-p70N or the ht-p70. apparently the N version has no HDMI. But i guess you will be able to confirm this now. where have you ordered it from also?

yes indeed i ordered the ht-p70N from pixmania. I sure hope i does have HDMI, as i was told from the danish samsung tech. support that it should have HDMI. He told me that the (N) didnt matter regarding HDMI - so i´m pretty excited to see for myself when i hopefully arrives tomorrow or friday at the latest

It looks like a brilliant system, i am gonna get one on the basis of your review.

My only concern is the HDMI.

Take a look at these links.

I found these links on www.samsung.co.uk in the support download section

    P70
    http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200506/20050617154408937_P70TP75GB-BM.pdf

    P70N
    http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200507/20050727084441562_P70N-GB.pdf

You can clearly see there is no HDMI on the N.

I so hope i am wrong

but have seen a p70 with HDMI here.

    http://www.waratah.co.uk/acatalog/Waratah_Live_Home_Cinema_Systems_126.html

like i said, i so hope i am wrong.

Havent had much time to play around with it, just got everything hooked up and my LCD mounted on the wall so will get back to you tomorrow or sunday at the latest :D

    thanks;-).
the speakers have a little hole in the upper half you can mount them to the wall by a simple screw!! also they have a "hole" wich you can screw something into but i´m not certain it fits the pictures you posted earlier - will take a picture tomorrow.

One thing i dont like is that the included cables is as thin as i´ve ever seen!! cant believe that the speaker actually can produce any sound with those cables! So far im having my first "fun" with the set as i´m viewing Nordic Music Awards ATM. Will get back tomorrow when i´ve tried out the dvd w. HDMI.

Ok watched a couple of movies yesterday. Started out with Saving Private Ryan with DTS and upscaled to 1080i. Must confess i´m very very impressed. Despite the tiny cable as i´ve mentioned above the initial battle scene on D-Day is very impressive and homogene. The picture was via HDMI and scaled to 1080i and simply look stunning. I also saw "A Very Long Engagement" (french "girl" movie the missus had bought) the picture was equally stunning (A lot of beautiful stunning landscape pictures etc.).

So all in all im very pleased with the system, when you consider the cost of it, i´m very impressed that Samsung can put so much into such a small and cheap system.

It has some minor drawbacks such as: a little active fan that´s audible if you mute the system, lousy cables, too short subwoofer cable, the on-screen menu could be better, and the function buttoms on the system is all black and impossible to recognize in the evening without any additional lights. The remote lacks a Teletext buttom when i use it to control my samsung LCD and the switching between dvd-receiver and TV could be better.

I think I've changed my mind from getting a JVC TH-S55 to getting one of these to match my shiny new LE32R41BD (god you know your getting sad when you can remember the model no. !)

Doesn't seem to many places selling them, is it only PixMania that have them? What sort of prices are the HDMI cables, I've only seen them briefly whilst browising for other things and they've been around £40+

Was it included as part of the Samsung package or because you bought it at Pixmania?

Any owners want to add some more info to this thread please?
I really want an upscaling HDMI DVD player and also a new amp/speaker setup. Getting them all in one would be great if the quality is up to it.
Does anyone find it a little odd that theres only 1 net retailer selling these? Been any professional reviews in the mags yet?

well according to sound quality i´m no expert;-) And dont really have a lot to compare it with.
I think the sound in surround mode (both DTS and AC3) is super and does the job well. Nevertheless i have no doubt that surround and HDMI upscaling is the main attractions of this unit.
I think that RDS and cd´s sound ok/good as well but it lacks some detail. Whether it´s the speakers or the incredibly thin and cheap cables i cant comment on but it lacks details.
It´s not really enough to bug me but then again i dont really think you can demand a super qulity allround setup for this kind of monies.
The main problems with the set for me is that the active fan can get annoying if you listen to low volume of the quiet passages in movies, and that the remote for the dvd-receiver doesnt handle teletext and input selection on my samsung is really annoying and means that i cant just hide away the remote for the TV.
I have pics in my msn space but dont really know how to link to it!!
And how do i upload pics in here?

WHen you reply to a message if you 'scroll down' you will see a button to 'manage attachments'. I believe if you have the /jpg stored on your PC, it will upload it onto the forum for you.

The unit sounds good. I know this sounds very novice but is the bass particularly strong? Punchy? or drop low?

hmm as also mentioned before i dont really have a lot of other subs to compare with. It´s a passive sub, but so-far i´m not complaining and dont really feel i need much more bass. It´s a nice "warm" roomfilling bass. It´s not earthshaking low voluminious bass but it is ok accurate and suits the rest of the speakers well IMO.
I dont think it´s particular powerfull (as it feeds from the amp) and i have no doubt another active sub would do the job better. But then again it depends on your needs - i know that for now this package fullfill my requirements just fine.

There´s no doubt that the sound quality can be significantly imporved with a better 5.1 setup with active sub. But then theres not really any reason for getting this package in the first place.

Althoug i wouldn´t mind gettin some new/better cables for the speakers, but i dont thing that´s it´s so straight forward to change those funny looking things the cables attach to the main unit with.

I'm now a bit concerned about this connectors for the speakers as I've just laid all my speaker cable under my laminate flooring and it's impossible (not practical) to rip the floor up just to change some speaker cable.

    Any ideas?

I would expect it's fairly easy to attach those types of connectors to your existing wire.
Just pop along to your local Maplin or similar, you should be able to buy more and get advice I would think.
At worst, you can splice the wires somewhere that it wont be noticed.

This looks like a decent system for the money, just a quick question though.

Does it/Can it upscale via component?
