Samsung HLS5687WX - Vertical lines and distortion unless source is 1080p

I have a Samsung HLS5687WX DLP TV.

Every source, other than 1080p, is distorted with colored lines.

For example, if my DirecTV box or PS3 is not set to 1080p, the screen displays colored lines and distorts the image. Setting the system to 1080p fixes the image instantly but I'm having trouble setting the DirecTV box to 1080p.

This is true on both of my TV's HDMI ports with two different HDMI cables. This has never happened before.

The attached image shows my TV screen with my PS3's output set to 720p rather than 1080p.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, including permanently forcing my DirecTV box (HR24-200 or HR21-700) to 1080p mode.

Thank you.
