Am looking to upgrade my DVD player as I have a plasma TV (Pio 43" XDE) and had placed an order for a Denon 1920, but these are on back til as leat early April.

So wondering if the Samsung is a decent player as i might cancel my Denon order and go with this player instead.

I have a 436xde. Read loads of threads and some said that the 1920 didn't give the greatest of pictures for some reason. But what one person says is average, the next 10 will dissagree I guess. I bought a HD850 which gives a great picture via the HDMI.:)

My old HD935 gave a very sharp picture over DVI, I think the HD950 has the same basic vid proc (Faroudja) which was one of the better last gen deinterlacers/scalers. If not using HDMI/DVI though I wouldn't recommend it. Other than poor component out, I think all the samsungs don't pass pluge, so they all loose detail in dark images. They also suffer from MBE, but this isn't something a lot of people have an issue with.

But for the money pretty good imo.

    John.

I'd go for the Oppo instead. It has pq equal to the Denon without it's problems. It's cheaper as well.

No that was the 935 & 945 . The 950 ( and 850) Use the Zoran Vaddis 778 all in one
Other than that the 950 seems good for the money..Im holding on to mine till true HD arrives. I found the Denon 1920 has a better PQ via all routes on direct comparison but it was( at the time) almost double the cost of the 950: Its PQ was not £100 better IMO

Has anyone got a link (or their own opinions?) comparing the relative merits of the Oppo OPDV971H, Samsung HD 950 and Toshiba SD350 E?

Would come in very handy during decision time...

    Thanks

I would also look at the Snazio Net DVD Cinema

    http://www.snazzishop.co.uk/netdvd.asp

A bit more expensive, but just look at what you get, must admit I'm saving my pennies for one of these.

just ordered a 950 as an interim solution for a 2nd DVD player

will let you know how PQ compares to my Snazio if you like

I dont expect it to be on a par for £115, but it will do me till the HD DVD market settles
