Samsung HD 950 audio setup - query?

    Be gentle this is my first post! :) Question relates to the 950 but also applies to most other DVD players I think.

    Why do you need to set up the surround speaker settings (speaker size, distance etc) on the DVD player if you are outputting audio via digital bitstream to a receiver with it's own decoder and surround settings? Are the speaker settings on the DVD just for the analogue outputs?

    Just to expand on peahead, the speaker setup options only apply to the analogue outputs

    Thanks for the replies. I thought it was strange. Nowhere (as far as I can see) does it say in the manual - n/a if connected to external AV amp. Maybe they figure people are just brighter than me!
