Just on stage now is Tim Baxter, President of Samsung USA, and he's been showing off their flagship TV for the year ahead the ES8000. It will come in sizes up to 75" and features an all new U-Shaped Stand that's a considerable improvement on the outgoing chicken foot design.

The ES8000 will boast dual Core processing allowing for multitasking so, for example, you will be able to switch between apps without quitting and reloading. The new Smart Hub interface looks much cleaner and more Metro. The U-Shaped stand is nice but it's not had the same wow impact of last years 'bezel-less' designs.

There's an integrated camera that allows video conferencing and by the looks of it, voice and gesture control but we'll confirm that. There's also some mysterious slot at the back that they'll give us more details on later. EDIT: It's to allow for future upgrading of the Smart TV platform, meaning owners won't get left behind by developments.

I'm watching right now. ES8000 looks a beauty. The 55" Super OLED that's also been shown looks amazing!

I think the "slot" is the upgradable smart tv hub. Clever idea, but how much will update hubs cost?

    Hi,

Thanks! Did I miss the Samsung & LG presentations? Can't seem to find them on the CNET USA website but watching the Panasonic one at the moment!

Did I hear right that this is edge-lit?

EDIT: Looks like it is. I wonder if they'll do an es7000 with the semi-transparent or black surround...

That oled sure is a beauty. I reckon I'll grab a mid-range lcd this year and then upgrade in 2014 or so... with luck we'll have 4k up and running nicely by then.

    Yes, edge lit.

Love the swappable brain, I only wish mine had one.

Zero mention of plasma's though :(

    Hi,

They all look pretty much the same as last years - no real design difference tbh. I have read that they will offer a 10% increase in Black Levels according to a CNET Report.

    Suave!

Glad to hear its edge lit which means it will no doubt still have light bleed issues, got my replacement D800055 brand new which suffers exact same problem as I had before, clearly inevitable with Samsungs then, someone mentioned about untightening screws as the back meant to solve the problem, but im yet to try it.

is the PQ mainly determined by the processing or the display panel - 50/50?

for example are blacks, colour, brightness determined by the panel? better processing is all good but will provided that the panels are up to scratch in the first place then could there be a fundamental limitation from the start?

I wonder when details of the other TVs will be up. Even though this is gorgeous, it's probably out of my 1500 price range.

I really hope so. I can't wait to see the full range and see the differences between them. Tbh I could live without the whole voice control thing. If the screen is essentially the same I would go for the cheapest one as long as it had micro-dimming

Videos are being uploaded as we speak, but don't expect too much detail as Samsung are not announcing exact tech specs at this time, strange I know!

I know why they wont be releasing specification's there probably going to want to avoid the whole Hz and Full 3D HD mess up they had on the 2010 - 2011 TV's.

In all honesty I think they should just get rid of HZ anyway as its no real indication I don't think as there's no standard. Its the same situation with pixels on SLR cameras its silly, people just assume the bigger the number the beater and its not.
