    hi folks
had a Samsung F6800 for a few months now
over last few weeks it looks like the light/brightness of the picture is switching off
its easier noticed when i'm watching a football match, it looks normal then suddenly the picture goes dark, just like they have switched off half the floodlights at the ground
last night when it happened I tried other satellite channels and tv builtin tuner to prove its TV or satellite box, the dark picture was on both satellite and TV tuner
is this a know fault with Samsung TV's is there a name for this fault
I'm going to get on to JL today to see what they saybut any advise would be a help
    thanks

Just curious, have you timed it, is it the exact same amount of time every time from switch on or can it be after 5 minutes, or on another occasion take two hours say? if yes to the former maybe it's a screen save function, does your Tv have such a thing???, but if the latter then it's likely a hardware fault I would think, hope you sort it.

Just to add, I did read in the on-line manual that your TV has an Eco mode, this will automatically adjust the back light to help prevent over heating, is it in this mode?

thanks will look to check if eco mode is there
normally notice it when watching football matches,
think it happens after tv been on for a few hours, not checked if its a certain time each night or for length of time tv been on for,
think its ramdom when it goes back to normal. but again not checked that

A possible solution is to update the firmware, could just be a glitch.

I would also turn everything off that controls the back light and any Auto contrast controls, so we know Eco mode is off, there's also an Auto dimming feature that's dependent on ambient light, make sure that is off too, if there's anything else that may alter it, turn them off too, so power consumption controls etc. If after all of the above have been changed and it's still apparent to you, call JL and have them look at it, quite possibly a hardware fault.

Something Samsung Tvs do is to auto-dim or brighten anyway, no amount of altering the above controls will make this go away, it's used for the purposes of overall contrast, you may notice the screen dim slightly with darker scenes and the reverse with brighter scenes, a lot was said about this feature about five years ago and it seems it's still being used, it can be tamed a little by using the "standard" picture mode or equivalent, if you use "dynamic" mode it will be more pronounced, just something else that may help you.
