Thinking of buying a Samsung DVDR100.

Can I use the timeslip function to pause live TV as Sky plus etc as all the literature referes to the time slip being used via the picture in picture to review 10 sec clips of what you are recording?

Also what is the difference between DVD-RAM & RW discs?

Yes - although it isn't quite a slick as Sky+ - you press record when you want to pause and then, when ready, you can 'timeslip' to watch that programme or any other on the disc. Full navigation features such as FF/RW and pause are all available during 'timeslip' operations. On the Samsung this feature is only available with DVD-RAM - which is the format I would recommend using in a day to day role anyway given it's reliability and high number of re-writes.

Have a look here for the differences between DVD recordable formats. Basically DVD-RAM is ideal for day to day recording (think of it as a removeable HDD) and making edited recordings, DVD-RW (Video Mode) is ideal for recording onto a compatible disc for watching in an upstairs DVD player and DVD-R is ideal for archiving.

Note you can download the manual for the Samsung model at www.samsung.co.uk
