I have coming an optoma RD50 on order as we speak...I am looking at a DVD player the Samsung Hd935 which has Dvi-D output. The Optoma i am sure has Dvi-D, would this DVD player be a better choice than the pioneer 575, or the pioneer 668 AV ?

    Thanks in advance

    Michelle.

the hd935 has been replaced by the hd945 so you might want to check that out instead.

    The Samsung HD945 is HDMI.

    The Samsung HD745 is DVI.

I have the 745 and the Pio 575 and actually prefer the 575 via component, but the 745 is very good.

Do a search in is forum for 745, 575, and 945 and you will find much more information...PJ

Yep, and I'm sure the replacements will be replaced equally quickly. ;)

The new models do look just as enticing though.

I've not quite worked out yet whether the cheaper model has DVI, or whether they've gone for HDMI on both?

PJ was referring to the replacements models 850 and 950. To quote an American website:

Both players offer up-conversion to all high definition formats (720p/768p/1080i) and include HDMI outputs for simple, single-cable connection of uncompressed digital video. The DVD-HD950 adds a white LCD screen, 6 channel out and DVI outputs, plus support for DVD-Audio and SACD playback - a boon for audiophiles.

    Hi Ray :hiya:

Yes, I was referring to the new models, but thanks anyway Mr Gadget. :)

You found the info I read too, and it sorta reads both will have HDMI - and the 950 will have both - but who knows?

Also, what's this "White LCD Screen" feature?

Sorry to barge in, but the samsungs have reported numerous problems in build and projection quality. But if it's the only solution you want to try or have available...

Otherwise I can recommend the very well (only surpassed by denon's 3910 top model) BBK or Oppo DV-971H player tested very well by dvd guru kris deering on http://www.hometheaterhifi.com

    Look on google.

I've not heard of that player before, but it does look interesting.

Could you be more specific about the "numerous prolems". I know of at least one issue with the Samsung 745, but I'd be interested to read of any other issues. Particularly what issues with "projection quality" - only thing I've seen here is the "blacker than black" issue which I must admit I haven't really looked into.

I must say the majority of comment about the Samsung I've seen is very positive. And having owned one for a while now I'd tend to agree...PJ

Well, I have one here and it is certainly good.

Just go to hometheaterhifi.com and look at the samsung test results, not bad, but not as high, aside from many user coments on grainy look, blacker than black, and other fall outs..

Sure yours are good, but when in the market for a new one why not the BBK DV971H.

Where can these be bought in the UK market. The test seems to be against the older Samsung model so hardly relevant.
