I agree, if you're watching SBS 3D (which all broadcasted 3D is currently) I don't even think it does the res drop as the res drop issue is meant to mainly affect Top and Bottom (Frame Packing) and Full Sequential. If it does affect SBS, I can't see it!

Football on Sky 3D looks awesome. I think the only time I've noticed a lower resolution is playing a 3D game on my Xbox 360, but on the flip side, 3D in games seems alot more intense than Movies with things flying out the screen.

I did test an LG passive screen before I bought this and it just didn't compare.

That concurs with my theory as Sky 3D is SBS whereas Xbox 3D is TAB so the res drop is more significant with the latter.

LG passive 3D screens aren't Full HD 3D either.

I recently played an Xbox 3D game on a Sharp 3D TV and it looked just as bad as it does on the Samsung 6 series.

I think it's the Xbox method of rendering 3D that is the problem here.

I know the 6 series is reported as unable to display full HD 3D, but it still looks good generally, on mine.

Firmware 1018.0 has been posted on the Samsung site.

It is supposed to improve the problem with BBC iplayer.

Im stuck between getting 55D6530 or a D7000 cause of the 3D issue, anyone had chance compare this and D7000 on SBS 3D ?

    Thanks

I'd say if you're buying the TV to watch a lot of 3D (especially on Blu-Ray or gaming) then get the D7000.

If you intend to only watch SBS occasionally then the D6530 will suffice. SBS displays really well on the 6 series.

Is there a glare off the D6530 tv? Is the screen very reflective (like a plasma) ?
It's not one of these tvs where you can only watch it in dimly lit rooms is it?

Its not too bad. My older B6000 TV was much worse. I think the screens got some sort of coating on it thats meant to help stop glare.

Not at all, our front room is very well lit (TV is in the corner next to the window) and I don't find it reflective at all, in fact I think the anti-glare coating does a great job. Now obviously if you angle the TV so that a window or light is seen in the reflection then it's going to be a problem but coming from a matte Sony I haven't noticed any problems whatsoever.

Well I've had the 40D6530 for a week now, bit of an impulse buy, but I'm glad it's now sitting in pride of place in the living room.

Coming from a roughly 4 year old 42" Toshiba Regza, I am amazed at the size. Far, far smaller than the Tosh, while the screen (although 2 inches smaller) is plenty big enough for our viewing area. In fact on the day I got it the good lady said I was mad for getting a smaller screen, now she loves it.

I watch mainly HD content either via our Humax freesat box (SAT), WD Nas drive (Movies/Music/Pictures) or PS3 (Games and Bluray). Audio is piped through to a Bose Cinemate system.

The picture is a vast improvement over the Toshiba (as it should be), and I haven't encountered any of the problems reported earlier in this thread. Suffer from a little clouding in the corners, but nothing major and it certainly doesn't distract from our viewing pleasure.

As for 3D, well as a first foot in the water I'm very happy with the performance of this set. I have watched a couple of 3D movies so far (Nightmare before christmas and Thor both SBS) and I'm impressed with the results. If this is ***** 3D then good 3D must be very very good.

Arkham City in 3D displays none of the jaggies that others are reporting, good clear 3D experience.

SD quality is fine for SD

Watched some football in HD and SD, well I can't see an issue with judder, motion or anything else. Think I may have a got a good one.

Web browser is pants, don't bother.

If you have a smartphone, download the remote app and use it. It makes control of the TV (especially the smart hub) very easy.

One tip I have found so far for those that wish to play MKV files from a NAS based twonky system, set the media receiver type to "Samsung TV" and MKVs should play fine (they do for me)

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask. I have to say (so far) I am very impressed with this TV.

I've just updated to FW 1018 and then checked the App store and it's not there. I can find it if I search the SMART hub but when I try to install it, it doesn't work :(

Just tried myself an no luck. Have emailed them again. There's no reason for Samsung not to allow the app for the d6530.

If that's the case with Netflix the set will be going back. Can you post the email address and I'll send a query as well

i was worried about that too before buying, but i've had no probs.

For daytime viewing you may need to swap to dynamic picture mode, or turn up brightness/backlight/colour manually to compensate for extra ambient light.

I've been trying to get this working but can't see quite how to do it, when I try setting it up I only seem to get stereo down the optical link as the dolby digital option is greyed out in the settings on the TV and the manual doesn't seem to show much information on this. The manual I've been looking at seems quite basic though (essentially a pdf version of the e-manual) is there a better one available? The amp I use has a single optical port after the dog broke the rest so it would be great to be able to have the TV handle the audio without having to switch cables.

The tv won't pass the digital signal from hdmi through to the optical link. Only stereo sound. The only way to get surround is to connect the optical cable from the Xbox direct to the amp. The tv will pass 5.1 from free view and built in apps just not from the hdmi ports.

I just used the support section on the Samsung uk site. In fairness they respond really quickly.

Bilbob, that sounds a bit more positive. I'm not sure though whether Samsung support really know either way. I've had some very different answers from them so far!

    and a reply from Samsung:

Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance.

Currently we have only decided to release the Netflix app on certain platforms as we want to ensure that it works correctly & there are no issues.

We hope that after a successful launch we are able to release it on all Smart Hub platforms.

Please keep checking your product page on SAMSUNG as you will be notified here of any firmware upgrades to add this service.

Our 46" screen is on its way back for replacement after I noticed what seemed to be a common issue on these forums - brighter right hand third of the screen, and horizontal / vertical banding.
With brighter scenes its fine, no issues at all but anything dark and its shocking. Completely distracting. I don't pay very nearly 4 figures for something that just isn't upto scratch.

I have a straight replacement coming next week in the vain hope that its better, but I am resigned to going shopping for a new TV. Bugger.

It's the tv lottery dude. You can't try before buy. Some folk had to wait two or three before a great example. Others first time perfect. For me it was the second.
    Good luck. :)
