Samsung has just announced its fifth consecutive year as the global market leader for display monitors. Samsung took 15.5% of the global monitor market share in the third quarter of 2011, cementing its number one position for the 21st consecutive quarter – a position held since 2006.

According to global market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), Samsung’s sales jumped by more than 10% in the third quarter compared to the second quarter, shipping 6.42 million units.

Samsung sold more than 3.49 million premium LED monitors in the third quarter, accounting for 25.5% of the overall monitor market, meaning that one out of every four LED monitors sold in the world is a Samsung monitor. In addition, Samsung held an impressive 27.5% market share in large-screen monitors sized above 24-inches, with 1 million units sold in total in the third quarter.

While the overall monitor market grew by only 5% in the second quarter, LED monitor sales jumped by 26% in the third quarter from the second quarter and doubled year-on-year—demonstrating a trend in the drastic shift from LCD to LED monitor. This was reflected in Samsung’s sales performance with its LED monitor sales comprising over half of total monitor sales.

Phil Gaut, General Manager Display, Samsung Electronics UK said:“2011 saw Samsung continue to launch pioneering display technology including Cloud Display monitors, the 3D SA950 and TA950 gaming series, the NC220 which was the world’s first zero client monitor using Cisco Universal Power Over Ethernet technology as well as the SA850 and SA650 wide-viewing-angle monitors.”

He continued: “In 2012, we will be driving our display monitor technology even further and really pushing the boundaries to deliver an improved experience for consumers and businesses alike.”

So now you know!
