I'm thinking of getting a BD-P3600, but need the DVD playback to be region free.

I'm wondering if any owners out there have tried the region free hack (and if it works)?

To convert this player to Multi-Region playback

    1. Press the Repeat button on your remote control NB: Do not confuse this with the Repeat A-B button.

    2. Press the buttons 5, 7, 5, 3 and 8 on your remote control, in order one at a time.

    3. The numbers 02 will be displayed on the top left of your onscreen display.

    4. Press the 1 button on your remote control for region 1, 2 for region 2, and so on, or 9 for multi-region playback NB: The above step may be time sensitive and need to be performed quickly.

    5. Press the Open button on your remote control NB: The above step may be time sensitive and need to be performed quickly.

    6. After 15 seconds have elapsed, power off your player and then power on your player.

To convert this player to Multi-Region playback if the above does not work.

    1. Press the Repeat button on your remote control NB: Do not confuse this with the Repeat A-B button.

    2. Press the buttons 3, 8, 7, 6 and 7 on your remote control, in order one at a time.

    (Hack 3 from here)

The top code worked perfectly on my BD-P3600. I might be able to retire my DVD player now...

Nice! :smashin: One step closer to getting a 3600 as my BD / MR DVD player now.

Anyone know how firmware update affect these multi-region hacks?

I live in the US and I bought a US version of the Samsung BD-P3600 but neither of those hacks works on my machine. I tried it from the Netflix/Pandora screen. When I press the repeat button (which gives the "not" symbol circle with a line through it) then the numbers nothing appears in the top left.

    Any ideas?

    :hiya:

Kingfats, do any of the new models from Samsung have the HQV Reon Processing or equivalent on board?

I need to get the best out of my DVD collection but unfortunately can't justify the price of a 983H:eek:

Do you think getting the 2500 is it  is worthwhile then or should I try and save a bit for a 983H?

If I got one it's be the modified version at £600 and if I could get it there would be a serious :arty:

At the moment though it's above my budget but I am also of the mind that if I spent £250 now i may as well put it aside toward an 83:confused:

I'm afraid this hack doesn't work for me, either. This seems to be a recurring problem for some people, though I can't seem to see a pattern.

I'm in the US and ordered mine from Amazon.

If anyone has any tricks they'd like to share, I'd be most grateful.

I should add that I press the Repeat button and the 5-digit code, and don't even get the region number appearing on the screen.

The problem is that the hack only worked on the first firmware supplied with the player. Firmware "upgrades" since then have disabled it. Since I have a large collection of R1 DVDs this makes the player useless to me. I will ebay mine and buy something else.

It will not be a Samsung.

So are you saying there are no hacks that work with the upgraded firmware?

    That's disappointing.

Looks like I'm going to be sending this back.

Hi, I'm wrestling with the region restrictions. I have a BD-P3600, region 2. When I bought the unit, the firmware was either 1.00 or 1.02. Anyway, the region hack, that can be found easily all over the internet, worked. It made the DVD playing region free, which is all I was asking for anyway. Then, without thinking enough beforehand, I installed the new firmware over the net at the unit's suggestion. Well, the region free option vanished - the old hack doesn't work. I've been investigating this ever since, and the interesting part is, that with the same firmware update, 2.02, the hack still works IN SOME REGIONS, at least region 4. And the reason seems to be at least Australia's and New Zealands laws, so the manufacturer HAS to leave the backdoor open for a hack possibility. But trust me, the hack doesn't work for region 2 players with firmware 2.02. Now, at least for BD-P1600, some clever people have installed region 4 firmware in region 2 players. With some hex editing. That's ingenious and I immediately tried the same for my BD-P3600 but no success; for some reason the unit can smell the rat! The idea is to fool (using hex editor) the unit to think that you're installing region 2 firmware when in fact it's region 4 firmware modified. But so far no success, not for me at least. Has anybody else been battling with this same issue? Does somebody have a solution. All these region restrictions are such a ridiculous mess, nothing to do with laws, only film industry ********. Yeah, well.. that's all for now. All help/speculation greatly appreciated!:lease:
