Samsung BD-H8500 shared content

I want to watch recorded TV from my BD-H8500 on a Samsung LED TV elsewhere in my house. The LED TV sees the BD-H8500 (folder /Shared Contents/Videos), but there's no files available. Checked the BD-H8500 and there's definitely recorded TV programmes there. Another option would be to connect both devices through WIFI direct, but despite being new devices of the same brand, they won't connect. Also the BD-H8500 doesn't show on my home network as a server, but I can use it as a network media player. Any thoughts or solutions on this? Thanks!

Both my Samsung TV and BD-H8500 have always played media from various network sources. The problem I had with both devices was that they wouldn't play each others recorded TV. In other words, taking my USB stick from the Samsung TV in my dining room and plug it in the BD-H8500 in the lounge results in no playback. After more than 2 hours on the phone with Samsung support I understand that recorded TV is DRM protected and can only be wached on the device it has been recorded on. Also my Samsung smart TV and BD-H8500 won't connect through WIFI direct, as this function is meant for mobile device connectivity only. To use the BD-H8500 as a media server, you need to connect an external USB harddisk with content, as the internal HD is exclusively used to record TV. As for using your TV as a DLNA media player, you need Allshare installed on your PC or use third party media server software, like TwonkyMedia or Serviio. Hope this helps.
