    Hi,
I was just wondering if any Samsung A656 (or A686) owners have tried to install the A756 firmware (which has WiseLink Pro) on their TV?

WiseLink Pro allows you to play movies directly from the USB stick where as WiseLink only supports Photos and Music. Obviously it be nice to be able to play movies from USB stick directly!

I am expecting delivery of LE40A686 soon so was wondering whether anyone has tried to change the filename of the firmware to T-AMBPEUMD and whether the TV takes the update successfully as I have seen people using PEARL update on these TVs? Or will the hardware not support such update?

Thanks in advance for any info!

if you want to try, go ahead but I don't know where you stand if it bricks your new TV.

Pointless, as the A756 has MPEG-4 decoding hardware which the A656 lacks.

Considering bricking your TV before you even have it is pure madness.

No, not at all! I wasn't considering bricking my tv otherwise I wouldn't have asked the question! :suicide:

I thought MPEG was software related rather than hardware? The tv itself decodes MPEG2 signals for Digital Terrestrial.

    EDIT:
It probably won't work as the firmware files are in a completely different structure on the 2 models (lot more files on A756 - opposed to just 1).

They have MPEG decoding hardware in. Normally the UK models only have MPEG-2 decoding in, where as some of the European models have MPEG-4 decoding hardware because some countries transmit their terrestrial broadcasts in MPEG-4. This often gets stripped out for the UK to reduce the costs as MPEG-4 decoding is more processing intensive. The A756 however retains the MPEG-4 hardware so it can play H.264/ AVC/ MPEG-4 media files over ethernet or from the USB port. It still can't do Freeview HD though, as Freeview HD is DVB-T2 MPEG-4 and the A756 has a DVB-T MPEG-2/4 tuner in.

You do see people on here bricking their brand new TV's. You can often find owners of brand new Sonys who have gone into the service menu and adjusted the screen size and then can't see the service menu any more.
