    Hi all

Obviously I'm after a new TV, replacing my LG 47LM660T.
I have a bit of a limited budget so my choice is as per the subject, either the Samsung 50H6400 or the 48J5500.

There will be a number of uses for the TV. Sky HD, SD, PS4, Blue Ray films, SD films......

Can anyone tell me the main differences between these sets please? (apart from 3D, newer model and 2 inches)

    Cheers in advance

    Martin

The H6400 has a 120Hz refresh rate whereas the J5500 only 50 or 60Hz. Therefore, motion will be much smoother on the h6400. Blur will be greatly reduced when watching sports or gaming. Check out the review of the j5500 at rtings.com. Their tests confirm this to be the case. I recommend tbe H6400!

Thank you mate. I had to order it online in the end. Bargain at £549 delivered with a 5 year warranty!

I switched it on for the first time last night. I'll give those settings a bash asap.
    Cheers

You got a great deal, no doubt.

With regards to settings, you might also want to try turning on the 'LED Clear Motion' in the 'Motion Plus' sub-menu. Mark suggests leaving it turned off but I found it gave the smoothest motion without any soap opera effect. It will darken picture though so you need to boost backlight and contrast to compensate. I left it off during day but for evening viewing it was excellent. HDTV test picked up on this in their review of the 40" H6400. It also had the advantage of diminishing any backlight bleed which you may or may not have.

I also found that with LED Clear Motion turned on 1080i films on terrestrial HD channels would stutter occasionally with 'Auto 2' so I switched to 'Auto 1'. However, this does mean that scrolling text will stutter but no big deal IMO.

(When, oh when, did I ever become a tech geek?!?!)
