Would someone care to add a little guide on how to do the update? I can't even find the file to put on the USB. I seem to only have the .xls file?

The .bin file for the firmware can be downloaded here.
Put it in a file called MT8226 in the root directory of your USB device, then insert the USB into your TV and enter the engineers menu by switching off the set then pressing INFO > MENU > MUTE > POWER on the remote (be quick) then select OPTIONS > CONTROL > USB.

Hi just wanted to confirm this part "Put it in a file called MT8226 "

Do you mean put the .bin file in a folder called MT8226?

also can you confirm this firmware works on sammy 6 series

Dont do the upgrade via the sevrice menu.

Use the hotplug method, with TV off put the USB stick (with FW file saved to folder named MT8226) then press the source button at bottom right side of the set, then at same time hold the power on button on the remote. Message should come on saying upgrading.

Too many people are going into the service menu and messing with wrong things, this will invalidate your warranty.

Yes place the .bin file in a folder called MT8226, and yes this works on series 6 I just upgraded my LE46A656.
As mcjibba says use the hotplug method, this wasnt known when I did mine.

Would this firmware work on 32" 559 model? Does anyone know what this firmware fixes?
The firmware is an update for all series 5 and 6 models, the firmware fixes the focus issues with the 6 series, I dont know it the series 5 has the same issue.

Ok thanks mate. think I'll just make do with how things are at the moment, can't really fault the TV although I have noticed banding in dark areas when watching an upscaled dvd on the DV696.

Stumbled upon this post:
I have the LE-A557 and would be very interested to hear if anyone has tried the firmware update?

I have read through some of the LE-A6 series forums and they seem to suggest it fixes clouding issues too or perhaps I just got the wrong end of the stick

I've downloaded the T-PRLPEUMD-1007.2.bin file but have to admit I'm a bit nervous about upgrading on my 5 series.
Is it definitely compatible with 6 and 5 series and if so where is the official say so??
I would do it (someone has to be first) if its possible to back-up or download the original firmware file in case I need to revert back to it... let's face it no one wants to invalidate their warranty!!

I'll post in the Samsung LE-A556/557/558/559 FULL HD,3XHDMI,30.000:1 DYNAMIC CONTRAST
section so others can see this post and determine whether they have the same issues.

Hi guys,

6:05am Inserted usb flash into TV and started update using source / pwr button.

6:34am Still waiting as it reads "SW upgrade - upgrading - Do not detach USB equipment"

I made sure the USB Flash (2GB) was formatted to FAT32 first so wondering now what to do... its taking too long seemingly....

UPDATE

Panic over,

I left the 1007 file loose on the USB flash drive as well as putting another copy in the folder (just in case).

This time (second time around) the turquoise update bar came up. The TV went off and the red LED just blinked at me repeatedly. I turned the set on and checked the firmware version in the Menu>Setup>System and its still 1006....

...anyone ???

Same here. I used the other method created a folder named it MT8226...copied firmware .bin file to folder....also kept a copy on the root directory of Iriver
H340... mine flashed 1st time i think...Got to the flashing power light stage...waited for a while...then switched off n on.

Firmware version changed in the engineer menu but not on the Menu>Setup>System

I never had the purple issue but i did notice a very quick flash of a black bar mid screen & slight out of focus issue. Now after update im not seeing it...However just now after changing around my HDMI leads ive noticed my setting keep changing to Dynamic....
This issue is now fixed it just needed a factory reset

Same here......

However just now after changing around my HDMI leads ive noticed my setting keep changing to Dynamic... Firmware maybe little buggy, maybe thats why Samsung say no updates as of yet.

Same issue here too.
Original and new Firmware versions listed in the engineer menu but usual menu>Setup>System option is same as original.
I read on Samsung site that sometimes you need to reset to Factory Defaults after the update. Tried it and no different aoart from having to retune TV and settings again.

If yours is constantly changing back to Dynamic mode I would check that you have not gone back to Shop Mode again, as this is exactly what that mode does

UPDATE **

THE SET WAS IN shop mode thats why it kept reverting to Dynamic settings...reset to factory settings..Plug n Play set up used to select Home Use.... Now all is well

hey
i screwed up my samsung 40" Series 4 LCD TV by changing Option Table(Service)->inch settings and Dimm Type(from INT to EXT) in factory settings service menu. When I changed Dimm type to EXT, it suddenly switched off. After that no display is coming on LCD screen. When power is turned on, LED on panel is blinking for 10 seconds and then it goes off with no display on LCD screen.
Now tell me what can I do to restore my TV to original condition.
If software upgrade can switch the factory setting values to default, then my problem will be solved. Please tell me any way out of it.
thanx

Hi

Firmware upgrades do not reset the settings to default.

You can reset the user settings by pressing the EXIT button on the remote for a while. But I don't think that resets the service menu settings.
