This may be a ver stupid question, but unless you ask, how do you find out?

I've downloaded some official Divx HD trailers to my work PC in AVI format.

I want to know how to view them in the best quality on my Samsung 46"?

Will it be by copying the files to my Laptop and connecting the laptop to the TV?

Or will I get the same quality by converting the .avi files to DVD with AVI2DVD software. By doing it this way I'll be able to play the DVD through my HC setup and get 5.1 sound?

    Thanks

You'll need a pretty powerful laptop to do this.

NO, this will downgrade to standard definition.

Or get yourself a media streamer.

Thanks for the reply cjgpers. When you say it will downgrade to standard def, is it because I'll be playing it through a standard dvd player. If this is the case will I get a better quality pic through a modded xbox which can do hi def material?

No, it's because you're converting to DVD-Video format to play through your DVD player. DVD-Video is a maximum of 720x576. You could try putting the HiDef AVI files onto a DVD and playing that on your modded xbox, but I'm not sure the xbox has enough processing power either.

Try them on your laptop, it might be powerful enough. I found that neither my laptop or desktop were fast enough.

In the end I decided to use a media streamer instead, something like a Linkplayer 2 or ShowCenter 200. These easily play the DivX HD trailers, I've got all of them now, and they're excellent quality.

how well does your laptop play the files you want to watch??

if it runs them ok then just hook up you laptop.

my PC (2.2 Ghz athlon xp 3200+) runs some nice 1080/25P WMV files using about 60-65% cpu time.
