Hi
I'll be gettting a new - probably samsung - tv in the next weeks. I will be using it at least in the short term with an older 1080p ARC only AVR.
So I will want to connect any 4k sources directly to the TV, and get the sound via ARC. My current TV (A 5 yo panasonic) will only ouput stereo down it's ARC for any external sources, so I want to be sure the next TV works as I need. To breakdown my questions:
1 - Will eARC from the Samsung interoperate with an ARC AVR?
2 - Assuming so, will it send compressed 5.1 (I think is the limit for ARC) for both internal apps, and external sources.
3 - For sources which provide greater than compressed 5.1, will the TV "downmix" the audio to compressed 5.1, so it can be sent via ARC?
If the answer to any of these is "no", then is this specific to Samsung - or will all TV's have the same limitations?
EDIT: Similar questions for optical out - I might need to use an even older AVR without even ARC
Thanks.
