As some of you know I'm looking at getting a SVS CS-Ultra soon.

I've spotted the Crown K1 amps, seem good but they shut off several times in a minute for some reason.

Anyway, I can get a Samson S1500 for £480 inc Vat & del.

Commens regarding Samson, versus "Hi-Fi" brands and other PA amps appr. (and the S1500 specs)

    Thanks
    Nathan

    nathan ...

You'll probably want to make sure you see any PA amp before buying it as most have fans in.

Crown / CA are reguarded as the best in the trade, followed by Crest. Then come a whole bunch like Carver. Trying to think of any others out there ... it's actually been a while since I was involved with any PA stuff.

    Thanls Vikki.

The Samson does have two fans. I'm just wondering how hot the unit gets in normal use with the Ultra, or how hard you have to push it for the fans to kick-in.

If they switch on after several hours for 10mins to cool down it'll be OK. But if they're on constantly after 20mins that'll be annoying.

    Crown K1 doesn't have fans.

Here's the thread I posted on avsforums. I'm the original poster :)

I think the fans will probably be on continuously ... certainly all the PA amps I've come across do.

    Nathan.

    Have a look here mate:

    http://www.matrixamp.com/4frame.html

I used one with my HC.

I disconnected the fans because after hours they were cold to the touch......i suspect it depends on how you use them & where they sit (ventilation).

    These things can blast!

EDIT I was using the UKP series.
