If this helps, here's a statement from Samsung UK on a similar TV (SP46L6HX):
The expected life span on a bulb for this unit is 45,000 hours and a replacement bulb can be purchased from a company called CPC and they can be contacted on 0870 120 2530.

There's no way a bulb will last for 45k hours, that's just the helpdesk being clueless. Expect 10k at most, and maybe 5k if you're unlucky.

Troylee - which model did you select for the SP50 as it is not listed on samsungparts.com and have you tested your replacement bulb?

Tv models are the US names HLR5087W or HLP5085W, so the bulb model is
    BP96-00677A.

Check your set, You should find a small sticker somewhere with that exact bulb reference.

    Sorry off topic!

Simba how do you compare your Panasonic to the SP50L7HX? Are they a lot better?

I have had mine for a few years now and am not sure if its worth the change yet.

    Any comprison would be great.

    Thanks

hi mate - tbh i never had the sammy dlp long enough for HD viewing. i had too many issues with it (ntsc jitter, hourglass convergence) - even though i had about 4 replacements. apart from that i found SD to be excellent on it. SD on the panasonic is also excellent (SD footy on good sources looks really good, and very little arterfacts i see on SD, i think much like the sammy) and HD is also brilliant. the plasma is also not exactly perfect, i have the faint lines issue on it that a few others have also reported but it is a rare issue and on mine its not that noticeable, plus image retention is also appararent but it does fade away after some time. in terms of PQ im very happy with it- especially blu ray.

If you were to get the panasonic im sure you would be happy with it and consider it a step up in terms of HD. Just needs some tlc at the start for running in.

    :hiya:

    p.s corner stand anyone? :)

Welcome to the forum GAZZAWAT, so when the screen goes off, is the bulb still working, and does the tv switch on then off sometimes? Thats what mine did when the bulb was going, new bulb sorted it out.

That SP range (46/50 etc) had a PSU issue that also caused the screen to shutoff and sound keep going, I had an engineer take a look and he replaced a few suspect looking caps and it was good as new (6months ago it was done) cost me 30quid.
