No indicator of ultimate success at the moment because Sony are selling all they can make. If there had been 4million at launch then they would have sold (just like ther Wii).

The numbers are currently pretty pointless given that the PS3 hasn't even been launched in Europe, but will be interesting to track. The smart money has to be on the PS3 surely. If it dooesn't do well, Sony will just reduce the price until it does do well. It's got the brand and backwards compatability.

Neither has the Wii until end of this week! But as I said, too early to predict if PS3 will flop. Wii will sell good though I think.

Total 2,282,839

Europe is half this, rest of world half again. Total, less than 4million.

The fanboy site manages to show 8million sales. The Wii sales figure is also significantly greater the the amount claimed by Nintendo.

Why do x360 fanboys post such inflated figures? well the word failure is going to be set to the x360 year end when it misses the sales target of 10million by anywhere from 2-4million. Even more so when MS set the 10million target for BEFORE the the PS3 launch.. missed that by 6million.

In its monthly report analyst Arcadia Investment says console sales in November topped 3.2 million units. Next-Gen has exclusive details of the report's highlights including platform break-downs.
Image Arcadia says hardware sales increased by at least 50% year on year, with software up about 20%. Retail dollars increased by about 25-30% to about $1.6 billion, compared to $1.3 billion in November 2005.

Xbox 360 unit sales topped a minimum of 500K units in the month, probably more, with 200K in Black Friday week. Retailers attributed the increase to strong sales of Gears of War and “chronic press coverage” of supply constraints on PS3. Microsoft is now on track to sell through about 4.25 million units in the US in calendar 2006 with an installed base of around 5 million units.

As is well known, available quantity of PS3 was probably less than 150K units at launch, with a further 50K creeping into the channel in November. The low tie ratio for PS3 is blamed on eBay resale speculation with some retailers reporting less than 0.5 software units per hardware unit. Arcadia says a 600K total sell through for the year is reasonable.

The analyst bases its numbers on retail surveys, although these are less definitive than NPD's numbers, due out later this week. It says Wii sold about 500K in unit sales in November with a tie ratio of about two per console. Zelda attached at a 75% or better rate. The report says that Nintendo remains on track to deliver about 1.3 million units to retail shelves by year end in the US.

PS2 sales topped 500K units, driven by the $129 price point and Guitar Hero II. PS2 is on track to hit about 4.7 million units in CY 06, which would bring the US total to about 36.5 million by year end. At this point it's not clear if Xbox 360 beat PS2 for the month.

Among the handhelds, DS unit sales topped 600K units, putting it on track to exceed 4.5 million by year end and 8.3 million cumulative. PSP unit sales approximated 350K units, similar to last year's. PSP is on track to sell about 2.9 million units during the year, driving the installed base to about 6.5 million units. GBA sold 500K in November, which should bring the year end total to approximately 3.1 million units and the cumulative to 35 million.

LOL, you post figures claiming one thing and then go on to post official figures which prove conclusively that you actually just made up the first lot. Your quoted figures state '4.25m 360's in the US alone at year end) so how do you figure that there are currently 'less than 4 million sold worldwide' when there is only 3 weeks left of this year?????? 3 weeks from now there will be MORE than 4 million in the US ALONE.

ANything and everything that shows the PS3 is not doing well or that the 360 IS doing well is instantly dismissed by the sony fanboys as microsoft fanboy propaganda.

Wake up and smell the coffee!

The quoted figures stated for 4.25m for 2006 only, with about 5 million overall. Don't forget it released in 2005.
well sort of, mostly in December with very few actual consoles if you remember

Wasn't that number the launch number? More came throughout December itself IIRC...

I'm not sure I agree with the logic that it is OK for Sony to sell less just because they can't make enough.

While I agree that it is early days and the low sales aren't due to lack of demand, it is still a negative sign. Until the supply situation is sorted, there is no telling what true demand will be vs the other consoles. And also, it can't be good for the PS3 if the lack of supply encourages some to buy rival consoles.

Very, very sad.

Go play with your PS3, enjoy "gaming" (remember that) and stop trolling
