Can sum1 help me plz? I recently purchased the above Sagem TV after reading the various comments posted on here I decided all in all for the price it was the best option for me,but on recieving the tv there were a few niggly things which can be sorted out, the only big problem I have is my wife thinks it is too big (wouldnt we all like to hear that on a regular basis) so she has done some research of her own and she has found the sammy which she thinks will look better in the room.

My problem is I have heard so many rumours and stories about plasma that I am reluctant to buy one so thats why I am here. Are my fears about plasma well founded?which of the 2 above would you guys go for? I am kinda new to the techy stuff so cant seem to get my head around which is gonna be the best TV bearing in mind I dont wanna have to replace it for a few years hopefully at least 5.

P.S My main concern is i love to play my playstation2 through the tv mainly shootem ups and when i move the crosshairs across the screen it left a trail of red and white crosshars behind it almost as though the tv couldnt keep up this happened at irregular intervals and this was 1 of my bugbears with the sagem,I was told it was probably a fault so could be rectified.Any thoughts?

Well there was a thread about the s5h, it looks impressive, big problems connecting PCs to it, but I don't recall any other specific problems, apart from being made by Samsung, who do not come highly recommended for after sales. If they were, like me, a character from the original H2G2, they would be the despair squid. Most of the tales about plasma are completely without foundation, and you will get no 'trails' on a 1/2 decent plasma. Plasmas don't work with console guns did you know?

Thanks for that,no i didnt know about the guns but that doesnt bother me i never use 1.All i know is i have £1600 to spend on a tv and want to get the best i can in a 40"+ screen wether it be plasma/dlp/lcd or whatever twisted contraption the makers come up with as long as it has a good picture,i can play my ps2 on it and im not going to need to buy another for some time.

Fair do's mate. I wonder whether a HD compliant one is necessary for you? There is no compulsion to buy HD, and at your budget there are some cracking SD screens, but you are at the lower end of the HD ready market. Your call of course, most of the SD ones can display HD formats, they just don't carry the label due to insufficient resolution.

Yes i've considered that, but as i said i dont want to have to buy another one for some time and from the research i did originally the sagem ticked all the boxes except the one that kept the wife quiet, there is always the option of keep the sagem and get rid of the wife which is looking a more appealing option with every passing minute but i got a feeling that it would probably cost me more than what i was planning.Seriously the budget could be stretched but i have been reluctant as the only more expensive option is plasma and i have my doubts about them and its not just from rumours it is also from personal experience

Hi,

I have an s5H, and it looks great with the Xbox (Dont have a PS2!). I'm running the Xbox through RGB and mainly use driving games like Burnout and PGR2, and there are no problems..in fact it looks stunning. As for PC connection, I drive my screen at [email protected] and play Hi-Def clips etc and the image quality is amazing. Have a cordless keyboard and mouse connected and it makes for a great browsing experience.

DVD's are also great, but pic on Sky can be a bit iffy and need pic adjustments.

Great screen, so don't worry about the gaming on it. I haven't had any problems with image retention etc when using the PC or the Xbox.

Hope this helps.

Bill.

That helps a lot Bill thanks,I have ordered the sammy and it will be with me on monday, although i am still a little depressed that i cant keep the sagem cos with the stand it was a fine looking piece of kit and the picture most of the time was excellent, i really think i should have got rid of the wife instead but you live and learn so they say, maybe next time.
