    Hi,

Finally decided to take the plunge. I'am looking at these 2 sets,
    Sagem HDD45 & Samsung SP46L6HX.
I've seen the Sagem at comet and was quite impressed but they did'nt have the Samsung.

Any help would be greatfully received

I'm torn between these 2 too. I'm leaning towards the Samsung because of the HDMI input, but it only has the one Component input while the Sagem has 2. Do Component switch boxes exist anywhere? I use an RGB SCART switcher with my current TV but i've never seen a Component equivalent.

Maplins sell a manual switcher with 9 phono in and 3 out.Being non electronic it works in either direction.

I use it to switch component.Works well and it's cheap.

The Sagem 45 and 56 only has one Component input which does Interlaced and progressive. The old 50" had two component inputs.

The inputs on the new Sagem models are 3x-Scart 1x-Component 1x-VGA 2x-S-Video 2x-Composite 1x-DVI The 45 also has SPDIF In and Out.

Thanks, the Samsung it is then. I do alot of gaming so the extra component input would have been a big plus point, but if they both have one then I think i'll go with the Samsung. Just to make sure, DLP's are better than LCD's for gaming, right?

    :hiya:

DLP's are superb for games console especially a modded xbox running with the hd leads. You can get 4 way electronic switchers from various places or you could put the component inputs into an av amp and let that do the switching.

Mine doesn't have any component inputs in it though :( (it's a Marantz SR4200) Can anyone recommend a good switcher? Do I need a specifc component switcher, or would component leads simply work on a normal composite switcher (putting the component red/blue/green cables in the red/white/yellow inputs)?

Please forgive my total lack of knowledge :p

Sorry to go slightly off topic but... ;) Is a loss in signal quality experianced using a component switch? - I'm thinking I may be forced to use the inbuilt one in the Denon 550SD

    ???

im in exactly the same boat i cant make my mind up between the
    sagem HDD45S / HDD45EU 1789.46 (inc VAT)
    Samsung - SP46L6HX @ £1,210.00 (Inc VAT)

there is quite a price diff as you can see so im leaning towards the samsung but cant find anywhere to actually see it in the flesh so if anyone has had experience of these i would appreciate some input too.

You should start to see the Samsung at your local Currys now.

What the TV looks like is the absolute last thing I worry about when buying a TV, but I thought the Sagem looked quite nice actually. Unfortunatly, the Sagem is a little bit too much for me so I went with the Samsung.

Oh right :p I didn't even notice it on the Sagem, but the lighting conditions were far better than they were near the Samsung TV so it's hard to compare.

This was one factor that made me decide on the Samsung rather than the Sagem. The Sagem definately had a slight sparkly look to the picture because of the anti-reflective coating. No such effect on the Samsung, just a deep black background.

I havent seen the Sammy, but I've had my Sagem for about 6 months now and have been very happy with it. Excellent piece of kit.

I am on my 2nd Sagem, soon to be 3rd or swap to Samsung this time.

1st Sagem had loud whistle from the power supply
2nd Sagem has a kind of snowy effect to the picture even on comp from DVD which is very annoying.

Not sure if I should give the Sagem another chance, I am thinking not.

I would go for a Sammy :smashin: - although i haven't watched the HD-D45 for any length of time, i have read a review that mentions dot crawl and fizzing over horizontal panning - sounds like the Tosh's 'characteristic' is rearing its ugly head again
