I've setup my Denon DVD player with Denon amp via phono so that I can enjoy SACD playback. Sounds great but...

I can't control the volume. Any reason?

The correct way to set up for SACD (assuming you are not using DL3?) is via the six audio outs on your DVD player to the external inputs on your amp. You then need to select "Ext In" as the input (via remote or on the front of the amp), and you should then be able to adjust volume levels without problem.

I thought the best was using the optical/coaxial cable...?

And either of the following: i.link/IEEE1394/Firewire/DV (as found on most decent dvd players)

....???

You can't use Coax/Optical for SACD or DVD-A
