Couldn't decide if this went in the DVD forum or this one....

Currently trying to sell my SACD player as with the addition of a Arcam CD have simply run out of room in the equipment rack!

However I am going to miss Dark side of the Moon on SACD, so was thinking about changing my HKDVD 25 to something that does both..... so a DVD/SACD player with component and prog scan, any ideas?

Philips 963 maybe. Or if you can cope without Prog Scan ... Pioneer 656 or 757.

I see that you have the 757i, are you happy with it so far? And what you compared it with?

We had a Arcan DV88 (no p or plus) before that and would say the picture from the 757ai (on a 32" CRT) is as good if not slightly better than the Arcam was (using RGB via QED Squart). The quality of CD playback is below that of the Arcam ... but guess thats no importance to you as you have a CD player too (we're planning to add a CD player soon) ... but it's excelent with the SACD and DVD-A we've got (DSoTM and Riding with the King).

Hmm tempting, I find that I don't really use the PAL prog scan on the DVD25, only use it on imported NTSC DVDs. My understanding is that the Pioneer does do NTSC prog scan.

This might seem like an odd question... is the mechanism quite? I sold a Panasonic DVD-R because it was to noisy...

I would call the mechanism quiet yes ... certainly quieter than the Arcams.

And the 757ai does do NTSC prog scan.

The mechanism on my pioneer 737 is far from quiet - I would define my xray as quiet and the pioneer is nowhere near. Maybe the 757 is better?

Have you tried the 757 as a transport with an external DAC? My thinking is to replace the xray/737 with a 757 and a Chord Dac 64 which is available from £1k upwards now.

    Cheers
    Rob.

We use the internal DAC from our Rotel 1066 which includes HDCD decoding. It's not a bad decoder.

I'm not saying it's the worlds greatest DAC but until we get a decent CD Player Cyrus CD7Q or similar we are content doing it this way, and we haven't had any problems with the player in any way.

Ours was from leconcepts £599 multi region. Arrived within 48 horus of placing the order. First one we had came with a small dent in the top (still worked fine). I complained and they sent us a new one out and picked the other one up at the same time.

Denon 2900 - to my ears sounded better than the Pioneer. Universal player, progressive scan.

What about a top quality machine like this (Sony DVPNS999):

Very tasty - not sure about PAL prog though.

Quite fancy one myself but now I've found out that proper bass management is impossible within the SACD (DSD) signal (i.e. you have to convert to PCM) it's kind of put me off a bit.

I have the Marantz SA-12 S1 - fantastic SACD playback with progressive scan with RGB Scart/Component

Have been told the Philips 1000 is a similar machine @ a lower price.
