Sorry if this is a dull question

I've been running my S97 - HDMI output to HDMI input (no.3) on my pioneer 505XDE....on the S97 I can change between 625, 720 and 1080 no probs.

I tried outputing component today from the S97, into the component input on the 505 (no.2)....but it will only output in 625.

So I'm a bit confused....I understood component could theoretically carry 625, 720 or 1080...so is it just the S97 that can only output component in 625.....or am I missing a fundamental?

    Thanks

    Guy

Component CAN output those high resolutions, but Hollywood bean-counters don't allow it to. They want any High Definition content to go out over a secure digital connection that they can add their copy protection to.

Hence the Component outputs being crippled.

As Lyris said, nothing wrong with the Panny, something wrong with guys in Hollywood.
