    Hey guys
was just about to pre order the Star Wars box set but was wondering if you had any views on which one would probably be the better one to go for region 1 or 2?

    Any ideas, thanks :hiya:

They should be both the same :D
    But for me it's R1 over R2 :) ,

    Cheaper from say DvD Soon
Better packaging most of the time
I also think picture looks better on R1

I know this is no help to you , but for me it would be R1

As long as the sets dont differ too much feature wise I will be going for the Region 2 release as I always prefer to get PAL over NTSC and from the pictures the Outer Packaging for the R1 and R2 releases looks exactly the same but guess we wont know for sure until its released.

Talking about packaging, has anyone seen any pics of the Cover Art for the four seperate Discs and Cases, I have only seen pics of the Outer Packaging and I am interested to see how the seperate cases match up with the Episode I & II releases.

I've been wondering which way to go as well. The R1's are definitely cheaper, but there will inevitably be customs charges to account for, which may even make the R1 prices comparable, if not more expensive than R2. As far as I am aware, the R1's and R2's are identical (apart from the obvious PAL / NTSC difference). I think I will go for the R1 from DVD Soon, and hope it's not plastered with French writing. It's worth the gamble of not being nabbed by customs, and even if I have to pay customs charges, it won't be any dearer then an R2.

Ok so it sounds like contents wise they are the same.
    Seen Amazon.co.uk advertising for 26quid for R2

Call me Mr.thicky :zonked: but does the NTSC to PAL conversion have any relevance here ie speed up?

I don't think it would be any more noticable than any other DVD. :) That £26 on Amazon, does that include postage and VAT? They craftily add that on at the checkout. ;)

$52.98 CAD (from DVD Soon) is currently £21.37 UKP. Can anyone estimate how much extra the customs charges would be?

It would be about £4.50 in Customs Charges and then £4.00 in Post Office fees so the Boxset could end up costing you nearly £30 but for the amount you could save I am sure most people will take the risk but will be interesting when the time comes to see how many people get caught.

I was thinking about posting the very same subject :rotfl: I'm not very sure what region I'm going to buy- it depends really. If there is any thing *cut* out of the region 2 version-then I might just get the region 1 version.

I think I'm going to wait until others have bought the region 1 and 2 version to see what's best.

The Phantom Menace had its excellent documentary censored ( Ewan swears a couple of times ) not much i agree but if you are a collector little things like that make all the difference so perhaps the new documentary might also contain objectionable footage or words for the BBFC PG rating ( I'm buying the Region 1 Edition )

I'm going for the R2, due to the PAL preference over NTSC.

Indiana Jones - I have seen the individual disc casing & it looked almost identical to the SpecEd VHS cases with poster artwork. They could have been fanboy Paintshopped versions of the VHS though.

R2 will have an annoying BBFC certificate/logo jobby ruining the aesthetics of the packaging.

R1 for me - must actually order it now while it's still at the DVDSoon price.

    From starwars.com:
"Each of the four discs in the set will have its own dedicated packaging, designed to fit seamlessly on the shelf with the Star Wars DVDs already in your collection. "

I seem to recall talk of the old remastered version (early 90s) having the speedup removed, but I doubt it will be done this time. With all that music, I'm probably going for the R1. (After I've checked out my brother's R2 that is!)

    I went for the R1.
The SW music is one of the few things I've ever noticed the PAL speedup effect on.
(Plus I have R1 on Eps 1 & 2 & NTSC usually gives a better picture on my display.)

DVDSoon are an excellent company but they havent been very customs friendly for awhile now so chances are that you will be hit with customs and post office fees if you order the set from them.
