at the moment i have an svideo cable plugged into the back of my sky+ box, the lead goes out throught the window and is fastened to the wall. its connected to my dvd panasonic e85 writerin my bedroom, i have interferance on the picture. is it because it is mostly outside or too long at 15m?, should i buy a better made 10m cable (which should be long enuff) or go for another option?

I would imagine the problems you are having is a combination of both distance and the fact that it is outside.
I can only suggest something like this: http://www.keene.co.uk/cgi-bin/bigcodesearch.pl?C5B

possibly using some 'outdoor' cat5 if possible, I have installed Wireless access points for computer networking and have seen weatherproof cat5 cables advertised, although personally I covered them with conduit.

I know this is expensive, but other than getting a better quality s-video cable and running it through conduit, I don't know how else you can cover such a distance. ;)
