    Hi Paul,
Depends on what sound your looking for, personal favourites in that budget would be either Exposure 2010. Nice and lively, good enjoyable presentation or the Rega Planet, which would probably come in at about £250. Really good detail and very musical player. Of course you may get lucky and pick up the Rega Jupiter for £450 which is just like the planet only smoother and an even higher level of detail retrieval.

2nd hand Meridian CDPs at the price range are worth an investigation.

You'd be better off buying £350 to 400 worth of external DAC of course.

Keep an eye out for meridian 500 series players on ebay. Occasionaly one comes on, and they go for around the £370-400 mark.

My fist choice would be an Audio Analogue Paganini (Mk1). They seem to go for £300-£350 2nd hand. MkII's for £450. Hard to find though.

Beautifully made & fabulous looking. Good at calming down bright ancilliaries too. Meridians are also well worth a look, but you might struggle to get one for £350 (maybe a 506.18, but not a .24).

A good DAC is an alternative (if you can find one), but they aren't exactly thick on the ground.

What about the Cyrus CD7 with QDAC, you should be able to pick one of them up for a good price S/H !

Might also be worth considering Sugden or DPA Renaissance or maybe a Arcam 5 which seems to be popular for upgrading by Avondale Audio.

My £350 would go to either a Rega Planet / Naim CD3.5 or Tag DAC 20 (driven off your existing cd or dvd).
