The problem is you can't please everyone of course. But there is very little variety in the setlist. I really can't understand why there is so much emphasis on one period/style.
Yeah I agree they have really concentrated on one particular period which I found a bit strange. CA will be amazing live tho. The programme mentions projections for songs not played last night. wonder what they are..

I'm still trying to work out if it is a brave or safe set list - I'm going to reserve judgment until any possible upcoming changes, though I have read this:
Spolier:
Some may get 2112 after all. Here are the different songs that will be played in the B setlist. No clue which songs they will replace them with though.
"The Pass," "Middletown Dreams," "Dreamline," "Seven Cities of Gold," and "2112" for the encore.
The album focused on in the set 1 was the album that turned me off Rush, but that period has grown on me since then.
Yeah seen that too. I suppose we'll know for sure after tonights show
spoiler for changes from A to B setlist:
The Body Electric --> Middletown Dreams
Bravado --> The Pass
Carnies --> Seven Cities Of Gold
Manhattan Project --> Dreamline
The Spirit Of Radio --> 2112
If it goes like this the MEN will be Set A as per the opening night in NH.
If they do alternate like that, it's more of the same really.
The You Tube vids I've seen look OK but there's not exactly a lot of air drumming going on in the crowd! I have read about lots of fans stood with their arms folded.
I'm hoping (against hope really) that they have a re-think before hitting Europe.
I go out of loyalty and devotion. They have me over a barrel! When I was a kid I hung on their every word. I just can't help it.
I was minded to go to 2 gigs as on the TM tour but given the ticket prices, and the setlist, I certainly won't be on this tour.
I have no doubt I will really enjoy the gig, but since I do genuinely believe this is the last time they will come to Europe I am disappointed there isn't more variety in the setlist.
I read this quote from Geddy (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette):
"We've gone to the trouble and expense of building a show, and we have over 20 albums worth of material that people want to hear, and I think while we can -- while we still possess the strength and desire to do it -- I think we should do it. We've got a lot of interesting pieces of music to play on this [tour], and we really like the new album. I think we know if we're going to play so much new material, we'd better have a lot of older material, so that everybody walks away happy."
He sounds a little bit prickly. I'm sure they have picked up on the criticism on the forums and blogs, but his last sentence relating to older material? I still think of Signals as New Rush!
Interesting comment from Geddy - his view on older material and fans view I think may differ somewhat. Older for me is pre Moving Pictures and anything after is newer!
PS Wish we could bloody talk about the setlist properly lol
I definately think they will play the UK again after the CA tour. I thought the R30 tour would be the last. On R30 they done about 30 minute old stuff with Overture/Temples, By Tor, La Villa, Xanadu and Working Man. Was fantastic although some was edited. They also done the R30 medley instrumental at the start.
I thought set 1 of the TM tour was poor. I also thought set 2 was nothing great apart from Camera Eye and La Villa.
While I've seen the band on all UK tours since Permanent Waves I have cut the amount of times I see them when they tour nowadays due to gig prices.
I have no doubt I will really enjoy the gig, but since I do genuinely believe this is the last time they will come to Europe I am disappointed there isn't more variety in the setlist.
Well. As I said before I've already had VIP tickets booked for the MEN. I am a little disappointed with the set list, but since I haven't seen them since PW tour, I'm still really looking forward to it. In fact I'm going through the albums I've listened to least over the years and actually some of the stuff I wasn't too keen on when released is growing on me. My favourite era is still, and will always be, pre Moving Pictures era though. Clockwork Angels has grown on me a lot recently and
as virtually the whole thing is being played in set 2, I can't complain too much
Anyone who looks on The Rush Forums will see some bad comments about the set list and some counter arguments from the fan boys.
My wife has never really listened to Rush, so I'm going to knock up the set list for her to listen, and get used to, Rush before next May. It may take some time if it's not her thing. Anyway I am going to see Donny and Marie live in February, so some give and take there. Maybe Ear plugs for both us needed. lol

pxr5, it will still be a fantastic show regardless of setlist!
I remember as I small boy I had an almighty crush on Marie. Looking at her now, hmmm...not sure what I was thinking. Donnie looks prettier Maybe it was the white trouser suit that did it for me. A bit less trampy than the Nolan Sisters.

I used to have a bit of a crush on Marie as well. I can still see why though Then again I was in love with Anne Diamond (maybe too mch info there lol)
And I know that the show will be amazing. There seems to be a definitive setlist A/B now which differs from the first night and now there is a new date in San Diego, maybe Manchester will get Set B. But then again they may restart with A, or even mix things up for Europe.
Excellent concert last night at the MEN. For anyone following the sets, Manchester got the
Set List C
, which I, personally, was really chuffed about. I was near the front in the middle block just off-centre on Geddy's side - so perfect postioning. On one side of me was a guy who had flown in all the way from Sydney, Australia and on the other were a couple who had come from Brisbane - impressive as I only had to tootle down from Blackpool. My wife was with me and she really enjoyed it too - moreso than Donny and Marie back in Februaury lol. The music quality was spot on, Geddy's voice on top form and the whole performance,
