I've always loved this movie but was disappointed that they hadn't sorted out an anamorphic release with DD 5.1. Well, according to Play.com an anamorphic release with DD 5.1 is due 12/08/2002 on R2.

Thanks for reminding me Squirrel. I have had it on pre-order from Play for over a year as Universal keep pulling the release, it was originally due May 2001 !
Also they have reduced the price for my order down to the £8.99 as was £13.99 so looks like Universal have lowered the rrp as well.

Hopefully it will now turn up.

In view of the raw deal R2 customers have had with Arnie films,(Predator 1st time around, Commando) I think I'm going to wait for confirmation that this disc is a completely uncut print.

    Is the R1 non-anamorphic?

R1 is 1.85:1 non-anamorphic and is in Dolby Surround.

If you'd rather have that version it's here for £11.99 delivered: http://www.futureent.com/dvd/details.php?id=5554

I can't see them cutting it seeing as it wasn't cut first time round ;)

This link confirms the anamorphic version is uncut as well:

So what's stopping you now? :p

    Spreadsheet?

Looking at the box is not a reliable way of determining the soundtrack on the DVD... if you want to be 100% sure, stick the DVD in the player. ;)

All websites state it is Dolby Surround anyway (but they could be wrong - it wouldn't be the first time). :)

spreadsheet - yes -wots wrong with that:confused:

Its for insurance purposes - a full list of everything with ratio and region etc. so they re-order the correct version to the one I had.

that way if the house burns down or the burgler has a big van and can just give the list to the insurance and say £4k thank you very much.

Nothing wrong with it - just that it sounds very time consuming!

I use DVD Profiler, as you can see from my signature. Have you tried it? All you have to do is enter the UPC or the title of the DVD and it does the rest. It's not always 100% accurate on the specs, but you can correct any errors you find as needed. Wouldn't that be quicker for you than entering everything from scratch? It also stores the UPC, which I guess is the most important thing for records? And it lets you print out some nice looking reports with the specs and pictures from the cover (use the pre-defined reports or create your own).

The free software is downloadable from www.dvdprofiler.com

    Just a thought :)

Yes, SG I did see the profiling software and does look good. I may use it.

For me, I use a printout of the spreadsheet to indicate which disc slot a particular film is my CV850 autochanger.

I just dial the number and sit down. Saves having to use the naff menu on the Sony. Eventually I will keep an upto dat list on my pronto. But as I'm toying with a DV27 or 727a or other progressive player I'm not rushing to reprogram my pronto.

maybe I'll down load it and see what I can do with it

Isn't it about this time some 'wag' suggests that a DD5.1 and anamorphic transfer won't improve the acting or script?

    Like me.

You're right. It can't improve the script or the acting. Those elements were already perfect. :D

    Watched this over the weekend.
One thing was packaging and my player / receiver all say this is only Stereo 2.0 not the 5.1 given in the thread title.
Was okay and is very cheap.

My packaging says 2.0 but when I ordered it, Play had a note saying that it was incorrect packaging and they have been assured by the studios that it is in fact 5.1. I haven't played mine yet but I'll take your word for it. At least it's anamorphic :)

My apologies to everyone on this thread. As you can see from early posts, I took my information from the Play website as well as Bytes and Bobs. Both of them confirmed the R2 specs as being anamorphic and 5.1

Well it seems that Play have advertised this disk completely incorrectly and Bytes and Bobs are wrong.

It is NOT 5.1 (as Malcy has reported)

    It is also NOT anamorphic

I am going to send mine back for a refund.

I see from their website that Play have already changed the soundtrack info to read "Dolby Stereo 2.0". I'm sure they will soon change the aspect ratio information as well. I have just printed out a copy of the web page as evidence.

What's weird is that the cover that Play are advertising on their web pages and the cover shown on Bytes and Bobs is not the same as the cover I received. So I wonder if they sent us all the wrong versions? Somehow I doubt it though :(

Note that DVD Compare are also saying this disk is 1:85 anamorphic with a 5.1 soundtrack

Universal UK are renowned for packaging errors over sound/video format.

    Yesterday I recieved
    Braindead - packaging states fullscreen/mono

The Quest - packaging states "16x9"/stereo (not surround)

    Reality check....

    Braindead's actually non-anamorphic 1.66:1 widescreen and 2.0 surround
The Quest's 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and 2.0 surround.

Universal UK have always had shoddy standards when it comes to their packaging and personally I never believe a word of it.

EiV's discs of The City Of Lost Children and Stalingrad both incorrectly state the films are fullscreen, where in fact they're both non-anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen.
I've come to expect it these days.

Worth noting aswell Squirrel, Play can only put details on their site that the companies provide them with, especially when it comes to preorders. Universal have led them up the garden path aswell as you.
Also, The Running Man only had a 2.0 surround track when it was released as dolby digital hadn't been "invented" back then

Thanks for that info Rambo. :)

Play have agreed to give me a refund :) The poor girl I talked to checked the website and saw that Running Man was advertised as just widescreen and 2.0  but before she could push this point any further, I explained that it didn't say that when I pre-order it and the web site was changed yesterday. I shall be attaching the printout I made yesterday to my cover letter - it only shows anamorphic and 2.0 (shame I was too late to get one also saying 5.1) but it will no doubt demonstrate I'm telling the truth. :D

Now the real question is: when do we at least get an anamorphic release (I'm not bothered about the 5.1) :(
