Running 2 single-stereo in ceiling speakers to a SONOS ZP120

Hi Folks,

I am currently building a new house (see my other thread here http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-cinema-diy/1416380-new-build-house-av-solutions.html) and I am trying to find some information regarding the speaker set-up with my SONOS system.

My plan is to have 4 zones in the house currently. One in the master bathroom, one in the master bedroom, one in the living room and one in the kitchen/family/dining room. The bedroom and bathroom are going to be ZP120's powering one of these in each room BluCube Store as I don't think I'm going to need two speakers with the size of these rooms. The living room is going to be a ZP90 linked up to my home cinema amp. The question I have is about my kitchen/family/dining room. I would like to run 2 of the above speakers to one ZP120. Does anyone know if this is possible? I just feel that if I'm at either extremity of the room, I will miss out on the stereo effect if I only have single cone speakers. Alternative solutions are also most welcome.

Cheers

Running 2 sets of 8 ohm speakers (whether 2 pairs of conventional speakers or 2 single-stereo units) from a ZP120 is fine, connect them in parallel at the ZP120 and they present a 4 ohm load which is not a problem.

ZP120 with 4 Spks - https://sonos.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...nNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1

Single-point stereo speaker - can be quite effective; though not used the brand you link to.

If you have three discrete ‘Sub-zones' connected to a single Zone Player then a suitable 3-way Spk. Switch and 3 x stereo pairs (or 3 x single-point stereo speaker) may be a better option as that way you can ‘isolate' individual Sub-Zones.

Take your plans a step further and you can add Rotary Volume controls to each Output of the Spk Switch (though you rapidly approach the cost of adding in an additional Zone player) and give you maximum flexibility.

Cheers Neil, that's what I hoped I could do. Unfortunately, it's a long time since I did physics at school so the properties of ohms have long since removed themselves from my head!

Hi Joe. Have you had any good experiences with any other brands which wouldn't be too much more expensive. I liked the look of those but really know nothing about speakers at the end of the day.

I actually prefer the idea of having the additional Zoneplayers. I'm not going to have them all immediately but that's how I intend to expand the system over time.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the BluCubes. I'll let you all know how they sound when I eventually get the house built.

How did you get on with this? Looking at the same set-up myself and was wondering how it sounded/worked.

Thanks:)

Hey there Telemaddad. I'm afraid I won't have anything to report for a wee while. We're not due to move in until July. I'm hoping the speakers are in already (just about to go up and check) but my SONOS won't be going in until we move. I'll update then on the sound quality.

Cheers,

Kev
