Although the instruction book made no reference to running in the speaker, I'm aware that this needs to be done for new speakers. The web site states 24hrs is adequate but does this have to be 24hrs continuous or 24hrs in total? If I play a CD for a couple of hours or so on and off over sveral days would this be good enough? Am I right to assume that playing any music CD at normal volume is all that's needed?

    Thanks

    24 hours in total.

Playing a cd on and off over several days will be fine.

I would suggest a music selection with a variety of bass and treble to give the speaker a mild workout over its full range. Definitely play at no louder than normal listening level, if anything slightly less.

shouldn't need anymore running in than that but any full speakers by mission really need 48 hrs at least

In my experience Missions really start to sing after about 50-75 hours. You do not need to push them in the begining just play them at normal volume but with music which has a good low end as well as high end (mids are always there to start with)
