i listen to my sky digital through a technics dolby digital/surround system, yet on a lot of broadcasts when people are talking it mainly comes from the centre speaker but i also can hear the talking from the left and right front speakers(which sounds a bit muffled and strange)my question is should talking sounds come from left and right speakers or should it just be coming from the centre ,or is that just what happens in 5.1 mode on a dolby digital film on dvd??,the music ad stuff comes out of the left and right speakers but also from the centre speaker too,im a bit confused and am unsure if i have it set up right, hope someone can help (and understand)

You will get "centre channel bleed" from Dolby surround sources. The centre channel is not a discrete channel in a Dolby surround track as it is in a Dolby Digital 5.1 track. The centre channel is decoded by the processor in the same way as the Ex channel on Dolby Digital Surround Ex 'tracks. Dolby Surround 'tracks actually only consist of Left, Right and a mono rear effects channel.
No system that I have heard is without at least some bleed from the centre channel on DS 'tracks.
Hope this helps. On the other hand, you may be using a DSP mode on your amp that makes it sound actually worse than it is.

Bad news I'm afraid, without an optical output you can't.
The best you can get is a Dolby Prologic soundtrack via the phonos.

SKY+ has the the optical output and the Sony digibox has the output but it can't be activated due to it's software.

    Nigelcraft,

When you say that you can hear dialogue coming from the left and right speakers is that from your normal seating position as channel bleed shouldn't be apparent under normal watching conditions.
