    Hi Everyone

This is my first post so treat me gently. I've been looking at this site for some weeks now and following the post's about the MS309 and BK XLS200 with some interest as I am about to purchase my first sub, to cut a long story short BK seem to have removed the XLS200 from their front page and substituted it with the Ruark Log Rhythm http://www.bkelec.com . At £249 for a brand new Log Rhythm it looks like a bargain or is it a typo error?. Has anyone heard one of these subs.

    Barry

Thanks EvilJohn2 I am going to buy the Ruark Log Rhythm as it is cheaper than the XLS200 Iv'e been put off the MS309 a bit due to the fuses blowing, well not so much the fuses blowing but having to replace with a 13 Amp fuse. This would need around 3Kw to operate the fuse, sounds a bit iffy.

Anyway i'll report back when i've got my Log Rythm

Might be worth holding out until we have our little mini test which is due to happen on the 19th of June :), we are group testing the MS309, XLS200, KEF PSW2500 and hopefully the new MS409 too, maybe an MS909 will join the party too :).

Should be able to get the results up on the Sunday.

I've had some small exposure to the Ruark Log Rhythm as part of the Ruark Prologue/Dialogue package during a demo at Sevenoaks around 4 years ago.

I was impressed backed then and the whole thing was driven through a Yamaha DSP-A1. Of course things have moved on since then but I see no reason why something that was decent then shouldn't be too shabby now.

The BK XLS200 is most definitely my favourite commercial sub under £300 and is the equivalent of the REL Q200.

Personally I'd go for the Ruark because of its musical prowess.

Oh and by the way, thats an awesome price of £250. They were around £700 a year or two ago. For that price I'd buy 2!

Wow i'm impressed!!! the Log Rhythm has arrived, I ordered it Wednesday night and it arrived early this morning. The first thing I noticed was how well it was packed. BK had covered the original carton in plywood which was strapped tightly, this meant that not even the carboard carton was marked. This is a heavy sub woofer with a novel design with the isolation poles finished in grey matt which looks absolutely superb, I was even sent a high level lead for free which look like the Rel lead that is available for 30 quid.

I have done some brief listining tests on Hi-Fi and AV using both the high level input and the dedicated sub input. Even with the settings that I had quickly chosen this sub has added a new dimension to my system I would say that it sounds even better than my friends Strata 5 its certainly easier to setup, that said I'm sure I can make further improvements when I get the time to fine tune it and run it in. There was no way I could have stretched my budget and bought a Rel like my friends so for 249 quid I am really chuffed.

Best wait until after our test but I'm pretty sure the Ruark will be better than the XLS200 due to it's size.

I wanted a compact model though

Better be quick, my 2 arrived today :)

Great subs for £250 apiece and I expect they will fly off the shelf at that price.

What about magnetic shielding of the Log Rythm ?
What would be the minimum distance from a CRT ? Does BK sells only black version or is it possible to get wood finish ?
By the way, is the XLS 200 shielded ?

Very few decent subwoofers are shielded, actually to tell you the truth, I don't know of a single 'decent' sub that is shielded.

The Log is available with the veneered panels at an extra cost of £50, otherwise its just the charcoal.

I'd recommend around 50cm between a sub and the TV.

Arghhh, gnnnnn. Having the rest of the Ruark Reference range makes me seriously want one of these. Do BK have the cherry panels available as I would need these. I might just get away with the increase in size from the Quake but in black, no way. Also, whats the postage on them?

    Postage is £12.99 apiece.

I know they have the panels too but am unsure as to whether they have the cherry ones you require.

Much better than the Quake but haven't heard the asw675.

It offers very similar performance to the REL Storm III I owned around 8 months ago.

It certainly goes louder than the Storm III thanks to the 12" driver as opposed to the 10". It goes as deep as the Storm III and plays very cleanly. Especially good with music IMO.

Two of these are formidable and go deep and I mean deep, I've run test tones using NCH and they are flat to 18hz. Stunning when cranked and hard to believe this performance is available for £500. The two combined sound at the very least as good as my old Servo15.

I bought 2 and postage cost me £26 so I assumed it was £13 each, BK must discount for multiple purchases.

I ordered via telephone so cannot say whether you should get a confirmatory email for any order placed. Give them a bell on Monday to find out.

Stange I've just tried the checkout on the BK website and it states it £12 delivery.

    What gives?

no funds were debited from my account today... you would have thought for a 'professional' outfit like them i'd at least get an email saying thanks for your order, please expect it Weds or something.
Instead, i ordered it and a screen came up saying 'thank you'. Which promptly disappared so hopefully it'll be ok

will let you know what I think of it when i receive it :)

    Hi All

Our secure server is very basic and does not give an automatic reply, but anyone who places an order should have a reply by at least 9.30 Monday morning. The carriage is £12.00 I think ShinObiWAN postage of £16.00 was for 2 logs.

Rozzar, I have PM,d you about the cheeks.

    Hi Tom

What are the finishes you can have for this sub ? Is it just the sides that can be changed or is it sides and top ?

    Thanks

    Hi Samhain

The cheeks are only available at the moment in Cheery. It is only the sides that are covered by the cheeks

MuFu I can see where your coming from on the looks of the Log, it's about about the same size and the amps the same power, but the cabinet is 25mm all over and the drive unit is 12" Audax so I would say slightly better.

I built the REL Q100E clone a short while ago using the BSB 12" driver and 100w BK sub amp. Pics can be seen here:

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132074

The Log is the better sub, goes deeper, louder and has a great ability to blend extremely easily with the mains, at least in my room any how.

The fun really starts when you use two logs however, really is a very good bass perfomance for £500, like I've said above, its as good the Servo15 but with the added advantage of real smooth bass afforded by two subs that have been BFD'ed

    Hence "updated". :p

Care to comment on how it compares to the XLS-200, performance-wise? Or would you be kicking yourself in the knackers?

Still super-chuffed with my XLS-10 BTW, mate. Thanks again. :)

woot! got my log rythm on order,,,,, spoke to em on the phone and they a bit embarased to say that the ressponse has been overwhelming and there struggling to get em out the door.. told me it would be next wedneday maybve b4 they got to mine... not that im complaining at that price!! brill bargain.... im wondering how this will compare to my Velodyne VX10......... im hoping its in a difernt league :)....
1 thing i couldent see is if its ported or not???? my velodyne has rear port which is pa pain when trying to position it near walls...... but i couldent see no rea port on this log rythm and maybe assumed it sealed?? or has the port underneath hence the feet to raise it from the floor? and will this mean ill e able to get it closer to wall because i only got a small room and struggle for space :)... but all in all.. Top bargain ! thnx!

It's a sealed box design so should be easier to position than your Velodyne
