RS232 controlled Amp & CCTV?

Morning!

just a quick question if i may, i'm currently putting a quote together for a job, it looks like we'll be using control4 for the automation & rako for the lighting, i was thinking of just using the inbuilt IR routing for amp control (it will be in Node0) but wondered if there were any recomendations for amp's with rs232 - this is something i know just a tiny little bit about, do amp's have bidirectional control so the amp status could be viewed on the touch screen's?

i have a price point of around 5/600 to budget with, but if you tell me xyz amp costs 1k but is the proverbial dogs doodles then it may be something we could progress with.

we are going to sub in the alarm side of things but i'm not sure about cctv, i had a demo on some cctv cameras the other day costing 1800 each, full ptz and amazing zoom abilities, while i think this is a bit too much for this client (in terms of function and cost) i wondered if anyone had any thoughts on camera's which they have used with great success without busting the bank.

thanks in advance,
Jonathan ;o)

From what you said, if you are buying the amp for bidirectional control with Control4, then you might need to reconsider.

bidirectional control within Control4 is not standard, think the development kit is $2k plus dev time.

Likewise for RAKO control via Control4

Hi chaps,

thanks for the replies!

my knowledge of control 4 is really slim - its a project we're about to embark on and yet to get on the training course/discuss this project with control 4

i assume i can create/assign a button within the control4 gui to select say, a sound mode? or a certain input? (not that i'd assign an input directly to a button, but you get the idea)?

cheers,

Jonathan

Not used Control 4 products but yeah thats the idea with a bit more logic to the commands.

Good Luck

Cheers Vis Man,

I've done a little bit of work like this, but this is our biggest job and while i am in talks with control4 - i am often cautious about what really happens and what is sales speak!! so need to make sure that i can deliver what the client wants + some!

When i had a very breif chat with c4, i beleive i was advised that it is/can support status feedback / bi-directional (ala crestron)

Does anyone have any thoughts on cctv systems we could integrate?

many thanks,
Jonathan

Control4 does support some level of bi-directional feedback, mainly the drivers written by them, However I believe the dev kit allows you to write your own bi-directional drivers.

As for CCTV, Control4 in the UK are looking at a CCTV panel at the moment for integration. The other forum has more info on CCTV

However need to check approval status of the alarm for police connection/ insurance perspectives as I find this rules alot of systems out.

thanks again,

I'll get myself over to york to see c4 and take it from there,

kind regards & thanks again,
Jonathan
