Router into a router??? or switch??

Not sure where to post this, but please help.

I've got a router thats connected to my cable modem. The router is connected to my pc (in the same room) then i've run a very long cable through my house to the back of my Xbox 360 in the living room. I'm thinking of getting a HTPC and putting that in the living room and want to be able to use my network.

Can I plug another router into the network cable in my living room and have both my 360 and my HTPC connected at the same time. I need to be able to connect the 360 to the PC upstairs but not to the HTPC. Hope this makes sense. So what I'd like to know is, can you plug a router into a router, or is there some kind on network switch I can buy?
