After 8 years of loyal service, my Rotel RA-920AX amp has given up the ghost. I've just moved house and turned it on for the first time in about 2 weeks, it worked for about 20 seconds then all of a sudden the sound cut out. There was a distinct burning smell around the amp, and it now won't power up... wether it got damaged in transit or something I'm not sure, I will look into getting it repaired however it might be a good reason to treat myself to a new amp.

I'm by no means up to scratch with current audio products, not by a long shot. My setup has been the RA-920AX amp with B&W 601's for 8 years, coupled with a Phillips and now a Sony CD player. Can anyone recommened me some good integrated amps to replace the Rotel that will give me as good, if not better sound, for sub-£200 (if possible)?

If it helps, I'm into hard rock and blues rock (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Audioslave etc. and Hendrix, Led Zep etc.). I only use a Sony CDP-XE570 CD player, nothing else, and use Profigold PGC7254 speaker cable.

    Nad C320EEB £180?
    Marantz 7200 £250ish?
    Rotel RA02 £350?
    Rotel 1062 £595 <--- very nice. :)

Or did you want to replace with an A/V 5 or 6.1 amp ?

EDIT: Second hand you can get a lot better value for your money. eBay and http://www.adverts.hififorsale.com/home.asp and examples of two places to look and of course one of the very best places is the second hand section on here :)

Thanks for the reply booktrunk, I have a home cinema system setup already so all I need is a stereo amp for my music :) Sub-£200 if possible, so only really the Nad C320EEB catches my eye in your list... looks like a nice piece of kit. What are the views on:

    Marantz PM4400 (£140)
    Cambridge Audio AZUR 340A (£150)

Are there any decent Rotel's in the sub-£200 range?

Also while I think of it, will the NAD C320 be wasted with my speakers + cable? The 601's where good many moons ago, no idea how they are viewed now.

I don't know what the C.A amps sound like.

Second hand you could get hold of a Rotel 970 series intergrated amp for around £70-£100 which is bloody good value.

What versions of the 601 speakers.

I've still got a pair of the S2 ones and think they are great, Ran them with a 1060 as well as a Arcam FMJ A22 at one point. Possibly isn't worth going over say a £5-600 quid amp but you aren't looking that high anyway so I think they would still do justice to the amps in the list.

Looking at eBay there is a 985 with 15 hours to go at £51 reserve not met. That would be great.

    ra931 with 5 hours to go at £35 :)

Hunt around bargains can be found.

Awesome stuff thanks mate, got my eye on a few of the ebay amps. What would be a good end price for the 985?

At 100wpc I reckon it should be worth decent money. Nearly tempted to go for it myself for a second room... would If I wasn't buying a house.

    Guessing but i'd go upto £120 - £130

Ok great, and that would be a better amp than the Marantz PM4400 and maybe even the NAD 320?

I won a Rotel RA-931 on ebay yesterday for £47 which I am pleased with. It's not a MKII though, which I've now learned is believed to be a far bit better... someone please reassure me that I haven't bought a lemon!!
