Question Roku Amazon Video Channel 4K Streaming in UK

Hi there.

I'm based in the UK and recently purchased an imported Roku Ultra as I wanted a 4K streamer with optical audio output.

I got the Netflix channel up and running with no problems and am able to stream 4K HDR content.

However it seems the Amazon Video channel isn't offering me any 4K content, only 1080p. I guess this is because no officially released Roku devices support 4K streaming in the UK so the Amazon Video channel doesn't either.

Has anyone had any luck streaming Amazon Video 4K content on a Roku 4K device in the UK and if so can you please tell me how you set it up?

My Roku Ultra is connected to a LG OLED65B6V. HDMI UHD Deep Colour is enabled on the TV and the Roku display type is set to 4K UHD HDR TV. And to reiterate the above point, the Netflix channel works fine, suggesting the hardware is configured correctly.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Mike

I tried AMazon 4K as well on a ROKU 4, no joy. Amazon does not want to acknowledge the existence of the ROKU 4 / Ultra , marketing I guess.

Interestingly, although I can't access 4K content via the Amazon Video channel on the Roku Ultra, I can use the Amazon Video app on my TV to add 4K content to my watchlist, then go back into the Roku Ultra channel and watch that same content from my watchlist, in 4K! Still no luck with HDR but it's better than nothing.

I had the same issue with a roku 4 (in the UK), Netflix 4K ok but not Amazon.4k... had to ditch amazon as it seems they do not acknowledge the roku 4 for 4K vids. Never tested it the way you did but if you got it to work that's great. Do you get HDR on the Roku Ultra in Netflix ?

Yes no problem at all with Netflix. 4K and HDR working right out of the box. To rub salt in, this page, which is an Amazon UK page, lists the Roku Ultra and Premiere+ as supported HDR devices.

Amazon.co.uk Help: Video Quality & Formats

It'll have to do for now as I need the optical output with my setup and the only official UK option that supports 4K and HDR with Netflix and Amazon Video is the Xbox One S. This seems overkill just to use a couple of apps (although the UHD blu ray ability is tempting).

Amazon Ultra HD content can only be accessed through supporting devices including Fire TV (2nd generation), Roku 4, Roku Premiere, Roku Premiere+, Roku Ultra, Shield TV, and Ultra HD Smart TVs using the Amazon app. Devices must also support HDCP 2.2 content protection standards in order to play 4k content. Right now, PCs and mobile apps using the Amazon Video app are not able to view Ultra HD content (or even see labels indicating Ultra HD resolution).

I have tried to test roku4 model 4400X using AMAZON PRIME to see if it can play a 4K UHD video. THe ROKU4 plays youtube and Netflix 4K vids with no problem but Amazon titles always appear with HD in the title even ones that are classed as 4k UHD......is there a way to ask Amazon Prime video using roku4 about video info. Similar to how youtube does it....just pause the video. Not convinced ROKU4 plays Amazon Prime in 4K (obviously this is a downer inflicted by Amazon)

Amazon 4K working with a Roku streaming plus. Netflix and YouTube can do 4K and HDR, Amazon 4K (not HDR).

Enabling the Roku Auto Rate setting allows 4K/24fps from Amazon and Netflix which is nice.

I have a Panasonic UB700 that can do 4K/HDR Amazon in the same rack, same amazon account BTW (but not 24 fps)

Enabling the Roku Auto Rate setting ....is that in the Amazon App settings on the ROKU or are you referring to something else.
