We'll add some 3D comments to the picture quality section just as soon as we've had a chance to watch the film in 3D.

Well, pre-orders went up while it was still at the cinema. 'Waiting' since Christmas is a bit of a stretch as it had no confirmed release date when the pre-orders originally surfaced.

I pre-ordered the Zavvi steelbook, until I saw the final artwork! I was going to get the big 5 disc Target exclusive but I decided I could do without the DVD and the heavily compressed ten minutes or so 'exclusive disc'.

My UK 3D BD arrived this morning from Zoom. I might give it a spin tonight, but I can't get that excited about it. It is no Force Awakens :)

Nice review. Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie made in my lifetime.

Whilst I'm glad some of the scenes were redone - "This is a rebellion isn't it? I rebel." was particularly cringe worthy - it's odd that they're not covered in any special features. They are absolutely perfect material for them.

Couple of nit picks with, wrong words used a couple of times.
"Indeed, were in not for the packed-with-other-shots trailer" - in used instead of it.

"brings an adult sensibility to the saga whilst retaining true to the spirit" - retaining/remaining.

You might have missed a trick there because believe me that steelbook is very nice - better than on a screen. I didn't like the boring generic amaray art at all to be honest.

I'd be interested to know the numbers for how the BD undersells due to people waiting for the eventual UHD. I want to re-watch this but i won't be buying the BD (unless i decide i want the 3D).
I can't be the only person that's not been buying new films that have no reason not to be on UHD (especially when they were actually filmed in 4k+). Hurry up Disney.

I got a £5 off Voucher from Sainsburys, may pick one up today.
Really liked the film on the big screen, saw it twice. Preferred it to the recent Marvel offerings.

It was a personal one and I needed to spend £30 to get the £3 off which was easy as I needed other stuff.

Will be picking the 3D version up of this ASAP. I'll probably buy it again on UHD if they bring it out with the full Dolby Cinema (Vision / Atmos) enhancement treatment but until that happens I am sure this bluray will more than do the job just like the frankly awesome 3D bluray release of The Force Awakens.

I saw Rogue One in IMAX 3D back at Christmas and to be honest I wasn't impressed with the 3D, the film uses a lot of shallow depth of field and hand-held cameras, which don't really lend themselves to added dimensionality. Having said that the space battle looked great, as did the scene in the data archive. I'm curious to see how the 3D Blu-ray compares to my cinema experience.

Perhaps. It just looked so "Meh..." when they finally released the final artwork.

I went for the regular 3D slip after much deliberation. I honestly think the DVD has the best artwork.

It is all moot anyway as I may go for the Blufans steelbook anyway. Which is how it should have been done :)

The steel isn't the best ever, but as Jim says its a lot nicer than some are saying and better than it looks in pictures. Nice metallic sheen (not matt), embossed title and a decent spine. I'm glad I didn't cancel mine.

Cas is spot on with his review scores. Best star wars film in decades, and looks and sounds absolutely stellar. 3d is pretty useless though.

I know Disney isn't afraid of milking stuff to death, but I really doubt we'll see the reshot footage anytime soon. Deleted scenes are fine, but they couldn't present them without an explaination of why they were reshot and I doubt Disney will include a feature with a focus group moaning that it was too dark and not enough references to a familar Star Wars in it. Edwards has became commentary shy too, his Godzilla remake naver had one on the disk either.

Shame, as his hungover commentary on Monsters was a joy.

I was very underwhelmed with the design of the steelbook on this one...it arrived on Saturday and I sold it on pretty much straight away. I haven't even bothered with the 3D release as I saw it in IMAX 3D and, as mentioned above, it really didn't add that much to the movie, so I too will be interested in how the 3D BD looks.

My favourite cover is easily the standard 2D blu ray limited slip with one of the IMAX poster artworks used. I ordered that on Amazon Prime yesterday and it has just arrived. My seven year old son has been dying to see this so I know what we will be watching tonight:smashin:

Disappointing lack of extras on this disc. Wouldn't be surprised if we see a 4K collectors edition with added extras/deleted screens release just in time for the Episode 8 hype train.

thanks for the review Cas, it wouldn't surprise me if they've held the best extras back for an eventual 4K release...strolled down to my local asda and picked up the 3D version this morning as a stop gap for the 4k version if/when it gets released

watched the film this afternoon just 2D - wasnt sure for the first 30 minutes or so but come the end really appreciated just how good this film was.
A bit cheesy, not perfect but really special in a lot of ways - could have easily watched it all again straight after which says a lot
