Hi I was just wondering if the new release of Robocop on reg 2 is the same uncut version as the criterion version, especially the seen were the camera goes all the way round Robo with his helmet off as is supposed to be in the criterion version.
    cheers Dave.

    Dave,

The R2 version is supposed to be indentical to the now-deleted Criterion version, but with additional extras!!! A quality R2 disc?! The mind boggles!

However, two points should be made here:
    1) Whilst the BBFC have classified it as a certificate "18", with a PAL running time of 98m 56s, the "Director's Cut" extra footage, has been classified separately, as a "15" with a running time of 11m 32s. This leads me to believe that despite everyone elses comments on the Net, the UK DVD edition will NOT be the same, uncut, uncensored, Director's Cut that Criterion issued!

It sounds like MGM will be issuing a censored version of the Director's Cut, with some of the extra footage being kept separate! Why, I don't know, but if you do a search at the BBFC site with:
    - Robocop (as the title),
    - Paul Verhoeven (as the director), and
    - Paul Weller (as the actor), and refine the search to,
    - bewtween 01-01-1985 and Today, then it lists only the 5 versions of "Robocop" approved by them. (The cinema version, the two video releases, the DVD Director's Cut, and the DVD Director's Cut Extra Footage.)

Anyone else care to elucidate on this, or who can concretely prove me wrong, and categorically state that the UK edition is identical in every single frame of the movie, to Criterion's very bloody unrated edition?!

    2) You can only buy it with the crap sequels, which means shelling out close to £30.

Personally, I'd stick with the Criterion Edition, if you can obtain it for a not too expensive price, as you won't be able to flog parts two and three to anyone who knows even a little about the "RoboCop" movies, as they are so bad, which makes the set rather a big con, all in all!

The UK version will allow you to watch the the cinema version or the uncut directors copy via branching technology.

It may also have the uncut material seperately, thus watching it out of context.

I have checked on this directly with the UK distributors and do not beleive we are being conned.

I would advise purchase of the UK (R2) boxset, so you get both 1 & 2 uncut for the first time. 3 also has a extra scene of a guy brandishing a pair of nunchaku, that didn't make it into the original UK theatrical print.

Although the criterion copy is very good (I own it), I shall be upgrading to beenfit from 1:85:1 anamorphic transfer with DD5.1

Just watched my R2 Robocop Directors cut. Very happy with the quality except I noticed a pause, like a layer change near the beginning at the roll out scene of ED209. Very very irritating I must say.

This is where the different cut scenes have been added. Don't let anyone call this 'seamless branching'. I am sure I am the first of many to whinge about this.

I noticed the slight pause as well although i think I will let it go, as the brutality in the film has raised a considerable amount!!

The spooky thing is that I only rewatched Robocop yesterday....weird huh?

    hello all

Have any of you had the chance to compare the Region 2 trilogy
with the other versions of robocop 1,2,3?

    I mostly interested in :

    - movie not being cut , not even a milli second
    - it being widescreen
    - 5.1 sounds extra would be nice to but not as urgent as the above 2.

    Cya,
    Shaz
