Hi everyone.

I bought a house back in September and I'm working towards getting it how I want it.

I have already fitted a new kitchen which is still in progress but nearly done.
The pictures are here

Anyway, back on topic.

I decided I wanted a home cinema. I'm starting from scratch. I bought a Samsung PS50C680 back in December to start. Then, yesterday, I bought a Yamaha RX-V767.

The speakers, positioning of equipment, the stand the equipment is on and surrounding articles are temporary until I get everything how I want it.
I have been thinking about positioning of equipment and it occurred to me today that I could build something that would cover the fireplace and house all of my AV equipment. Thoughts?

I don't really use the fire, but I wouldn't want to rip it out as I think it is a good focal point (for some) and therefore a good selling point to the house.

I will be updating this thread as and when I purchase more equipment and add to my home cinema.

Any advice, opinions, criticisms are welcome.

Thanks.

Just to expand on bluenose24's post, your pictures are uploaded on Flickr.

The thumbnails appear, only if you upload your pictures to AVForums, using the attachment feature (which is below where you type your message labeled "Additional Options").

Setup looks nice btw.

After uploading and looking at my previous pictures, I couldn't help but notice how cluttered it looked! Even though I'm a bit of a minimalist and quite tidy, it still looked too busy. So, I had a tidy up (below).
I'm now about to re-jig the whole thing and see what it looks like with the table over the fireplace... I'll post up when I've finished, which maybe a while as I'm having a few beers whilst doing it :D

Well, all moved around and tidied up. I think this is where I want the equipment finally. Of course, I am purchasing a new stand and covering up the fire place.

What do you all think?

LEDs are looking good - the camera never does them justice though does it, I've seen a few setups with LEDs behind that look awesome but as soon as you take a camera to them it doesn't capture the ambience.

Is there a reason for the one cover on one cover off with your speakers?

Thanks guys.

I know what you mean about the LED's. You really need to take a picture with them on in the dark, but then you struggle to see much else.
I do like the LED's, a guy from here pointed me in the direction of them and I'm glad I bought them :) Cheap too.

No reason regarding the speakers, just deciding to have the covers on or off and happened to take the picture while they were like it.

Here are a couple I've taken in the past.

The LED's look brighter in the second picture not only because of the colour (green), but because when I first mounted them I stuck them too far towards the middle of the TV (blue). Bringing them to the edges allowed them to flood the back wall somewhat more. Looks better I think.

Thanks guys, I'm getting there...slowly...

Hi guys.

I haven't updated this thread for quite some time now, but I'm a little further with both my kitchen project photos here and also my home theatre project.

Regarding the kitchen, I'm pretty much finished apart from some touching up, a little more glossing here and there and décor such as a clock, picture etc. I'm very happy with it, considering how it used to be when I moved in last September! What do you think?

I have purchased a pair of 686's for my rear speakers from forum member KhalJimbo. I'm chuffed with them and they have added a certain depth to both films and music Can't wait to add a centre and sub now! :D

Going back up the thread to the pictures of the TV and surrounding area, I am now planning on building a small floating wall - about 3 inches either side and above the TV - and also to cover the fire place (all the way to the floor) and to get rid of the current stand/coffee table. On this wall, below the TV, I will have enough shelves to place a centre speaker and the rest of my equipment: xbox, ps3, virgin box, amp, router(?), revo... These will be floating shelves with holes in the floating wall and all cabling fed through and down the back so you won't be able to see any cabling at all. I think it will look pretty good. Thoughts? I'm thinking black and maybe an orange main wall. Any thoughts, advise, criticisms will be greatly received. Cheers.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the new rear speakers - I struggled getting both speakers in one picture by the way! Oh and the cables will be hidden soon enough. I am thinking of drilling holes in the top of the stand and feeding them down the hollow legs - thoughts? Let me know what you think.

Hello again!

Time for another update.

I've been decorating

The false wall to cover the fireplace is still in the pipe line - lack of funds is stalling this project!

I'm on for buying a new TV/AV stand within the next week or so, but I'm really struggling to find something that fits my taste and will cater for all devices.
It needs to be around 1000mm long, >450mm deep (ideally 500mm), 3 shelves with a gap of around 200mm between the bottom shelf and first shelf up to take my amp. Taste wise, anything black, black glass or black ash and enclosed sides. Any ideas??

Anyway, here are the pics so far, let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking.

Looking good, do you have plans for a center channel?

Thanks Matt. Yes, I have plans for a centre channel. The HTM62 I think. I also have plans for a sub. It's just taking me a while as I'm juggling this with re-decorating the whole house and I live on my own. Tough, but enjoyable times! :)

Yeah, the HTM62 would be the perfect choice not to mention would look superb having the matching set.
Keep up the good work.

Hey guys.

I haven't updated this thread for some time, but things have progressed slightly.

Firstly I have a centre speaker - HTM62.

Merry Christmas!
